Open the catalog to page 1Study question This report deals with the choice of the Pardak® 110 rooftop car parking system, from system supplier Zoontjens, for the Shopping 1 project in Genk. The question posed was to further examine the sustainability criterion since this was one of the decisive arguments in opting for this system. However, ‘sustainability’ is a very broad and widely used term, not only in the construction sector but also in economics and other fields. Against this background, it is therefore necessary to define the term more closely. In the construction sector, ‘sustainability ’ is considered an...
Open the catalog to page 2Case study : Shopping 1 in Genk Shopping 1 in Genk was opened in 1968 as the first Belgian shopping centre based on the successful mall model from the United States. The complex houses 56 shops under one roof, including a Carrefour supermarket. Right from the start, parking facilities were provided on the roof with direct access to the complex. Due to settlement of the support structure (as a result of age), leading to the formation of puddles, and following a series of hard winters in the years following 2000, demand for a far-reaching roof renovation became acute. At that same time,...

This cool air layer reduces the likelihood of overheating in the areas below the roof. This effect is of course enhanced if you select light-coloured slabs to reflect more heat. Open the catalog to page 5Pardak® 110 system ideal for reuse The Pardak®110 system is very easy to dismantle into ‘clean’ components and as such fulfils the ‘Cradle to Cradle’ principle. Its considerable dimensional accuracy means that recuperated slabs can be used in new laying plans, without the need for measurement. In the Shopping 1 project, 5725 m2 of slabs were fully recuperated and reused on new rooftops. The slab supports and tensioning elements could not be reused because Zoontjens was only willing to issue a guarantee if new material was used. Pardak® 110 system consists of environmentally-friendly...
