Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document discusses the intersection of art and architecture, focusing on the use of Hunter Zinc, a custom patina zinc material by Zahner, in architectural applications such as the Art Gallery of Alberta.
Hunter Zinc Patina
Hunter Zinc features a durable and stable patina that does not rub off, stain, or erode. The patina is a mineralized compound embedded in the zinc sheet metal, developed in a controlled environment at Zahner's Dallas Production Facility.
Environmental Compliance
Zahner's production of patinas on lead-free zinc, copper, and weathering steel complies with EPA standards for waste management, reflecting a commitment to minimal environmental impact.
Material Characteristics
Hunter Zinc is a lead-free, preweathered zinc with a custom patina, designed to age gracefully. It is suitable for both contemporary and historic aesthetics, offering a sophisticated appearance.
Patina vs. Paint
Unlike paint, patina is a mineralized oxide that forms a protective barrier on metal surfaces, preventing further corrosion.
Durability and Longevity
Hunter Zinc provides a protective coating on a durable material, with zinc roofs and wall systems lasting up to 100 years. In Europe, zinc is widely used and recycled at a high rate, with 90% of rolled zinc recovered annually.
Applications
Hunter Zinc is suitable for both exterior and interior applications, resisting fingerprints and scratches, making it ideal for pedestrian environments.

aaiii___; Patina vs. Paint Surface patina should not be confused with paint. Patina is a mineralized oxide on metal that is self-limiting (rust, for instance, is not self-limiting because it will continue to eat through a surface). It is a reaction to the elements that in turn provides a protective barrier from the elements. Designed to Last Hunter Zinc surface patina provides a protective coating on a material which is already highly rated for its durability. When properly installed, a zinc roof or wall system can last up to 100 years. In Europe, where zinc use is most prevalent, roofs, gutters...
