Key Features: Xtratherm FR/MG is a high-performance rigid insulation with thermal conductivity as low as 0.024W/mK. It is compatible with adhesively bonded single ply roofing membranes laid on mechanically fixed boards and is LPC/FM approved. The material is non-deleterious, manufactured without CFCs/HCFCs, and has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and low global warming potential (GWP). It is suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects.

Vapour Control Layer: A continuous approved vapour control layer is necessary below the insulation unless over a sealed metal deck system. For mechanically fixed boards, a minimum 1000 gauge polythene layer should be used, lapped, and sealed with double-sided tape. At vertical upstands and penetrations, the VCL should be turned up and sealed to encapsulate the insulation layer before the roof finish is completed.

Bonding and Membrane Systems: The vapour control layer should be bonded with sufficient adhesion to resist wind uplift. For membrane systems, contact Xtratherm Technical Support for compatibility advice. Loadings should consider maintenance traffic, and walkways should be provided for regular access.

Roof Design and Fire Performance: Roof design should adhere to BS 4841: Part 3 1987 and Single Ply Roofing Association recommendations. The fire rating depends on the specified waterproofing system, tested to BS 476 Part 3: 2004.

Installation: Xtratherm FR/MG boards should be laid over the vapour control layer in a break-bonded pattern. For metal decks, boards should be laid at right angles to corrugations. For concrete decks, boards can be secured with mechanical fixings or adhered with approved systems. Partially bonded systems should follow BS 8217: 2005, and fully adhered systems should ensure taped joints and abutments.

Physical Characteristics: The boards have a density of 32kg/m3, compressive strength >150kPa, and water vapour resistivity >100MNs/gm. Typical U-values range from 0.27 to 0.16 W/mK depending on thickness.

Standards and Durability: Xtratherm products are manufactured to EN ISO 13165 and are stable, rot-proof, and effective for the building's lifespan. They should be protected from weather conditions during storage and installation.
