Specifications
The griddles feature dual burners and come in various sizes with different BTU outputs. They can operate on natural gas or propane, requiring specific manifold pressures for each fuel type.
Installation
Installation should be done by a qualified technician on a firm, level, non-combustible surface with adequate ventilation. Adjustable legs are provided for leveling. Compliance with local codes and the National Fuel Gas Code is necessary.
Operation
Operators must understand the appliance's use and limitations. The griddle surface becomes very hot during operation, necessitating proper safety precautions to prevent injury.
Cleaning Instructions
Regular cleaning is essential for sanitation and performance. The appliance should not be submerged in water, and burners must be thoroughly dried if wet.
Troubleshooting
Basic troubleshooting suggestions are provided for common issues. For complex problems, contact an authorized service agent.
Warranty
The equipment is warranted against defects for one year from installation or 18 months from shipment. The warranty covers repair of defects by authorized service agencies but excludes misuse, improper installation, and unauthorized modifications.
Shipping Damage Claim Procedure
Inspect shipments for visible and concealed damage immediately upon receipt. File claims with the carrier promptly and retain packaging for inspection.
Safety Precautions
Do not store flammable materials near the appliance. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent health hazards from exhaust gases. Only trained technicians should service gas components to avoid fire hazards.
Agency Listing Information
The appliance conforms to NSF Standard 4 for sanitation and meets ANSI Z.83.11 specifications for gas-fired food service equipment. It is certified by the Canadian Standards Association for gas operation.
Installation Requirements
Installation must be performed by a qualified and certified technician, conforming to local codes or the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1. Ventilation must comply with NFPA 96 standards.
Gas Supply and Piping
Use black iron pipe or approved materials for gas supply lines, with piping at least 3/4” in diameter. Use gas-resistant pipe sealant on male threads only and check all joints for leaks using a soap and water solution.
Installation Procedures
Verify fuel type and pressure match the nameplate specifications. Maintain required clearances to combustible surfaces and install the gas pressure regulator with the flow arrow pointing toward the griddle.
Operational Guidelines
Do not use the appliance if submerged in water. Light the pilot flame manually and ensure all burners light without delay. Adjust burner flame for a mostly blue color.
Cleaning Instructions
Clean daily using a bristle brush, mild detergent, and warm water. Avoid using steel wool or metal scouring pads. Thoroughly clean the grease trough and drawer daily.
Safety Warnings
Never use an open flame to check for gas leaks. Shut off the gas supply before cleaning and allow the griddle to cool before cleaning to avoid burns.
Unpacking & Inspection
Carefully remove the device from the carton, removing all protective films, packaging materials, and accessories before starting installation. Verify all components and accessories are present before discarding packaging materials.
Components
The device includes double burners, adjustable feet, and grease trays, with quantities varying by model.
Gas Appliance Code Compliance
Gas piping installation must be performed by a qualified technician, adhering to local codes or the ANSI Z223.1 National Fuel Gas Code.
Gas Grill Installation
Verify fuel type and pressure match specifications on the nameplate. Install the pressure regulator correctly, ensuring the arrow points towards the grill.
Gas Pressure Adjustment
The gas pressure regulator is factory-set. Adjust the pilot flame height using a small flathead screwdriver, ensuring it is 0.64 cm (1/4 inch) high.
Operation
Do not use the device if submerged in water. Ensure burners, pilot burner, and grease tray are correctly installed before operation.
Shutdown Instructions
Turn all burner knobs to the OFF position, extinguish all pilot lights, and set the main shut-off valve to OFF.
Warnings
Never use a naked flame to detect gas leaks. If gas is smelled, do not attempt to light the appliance, touch any electrical switches, or use a phone in the building.
Specifications and Safety Precautions
Instructions for operating a Wells heavy-duty gas griddle emphasize turning off the gas at the main shut-off valve and allowing the appliance to purge for five minutes before relighting the pilot light.
Grill Surface Preparation
The grill's steel surface needs to be filled with oil to create a non-stick cooking surface. Preheat the grill to 191°C (375°F), apply a thin layer of cooking oil, allow it to smoke, and then wipe it off. Repeat 2-3 times for new grills.
Grill Operation
Inspect and clean the unit if necessary before use. Ensure the pilot light is lit before operating the grill.
Cooking Recommendations
To save energy, turn the temperature control knob to OFF when the grill is not in use.
Cleaning Instructions
Daily cleaning is recommended. Use a soft-bristle brush, clean cloth or sponge, mild detergent, and hot water. Avoid using metal scouring pads.
Burner Cleaning
If individual burner holes do not emit flame or the flame is irregular, the burner may need cleaning. Remove the burners, clean them with hot water and mild detergent, and let them air dry completely.
Troubleshooting Tips
Solutions for common issues such as the pilot light not igniting, burners not lighting, and irregular burner flames are provided.
Service and Replacement Parts
Use only factory-approved replacement parts and filters. Contact Wells Manufacturing for parts and service information.
