VAN SEVEREN COLLECTION-2

Maarten Van Severen in his workshop The architect and designer Maarten Van Severen began designing furniture in the mid 1980s that he initially produced in small quantities in his workshop in Ghent. He began working with Vitra in 1995. These pieces now comprise the Van Severen Collection. Until his death in 2005 in Ghent, Maarten Van Severen developed a range of new designs for Vitra, which have progressively entered series production. Vitra has focussed on seating for over50 years. Every Vitra chair is the result of continuous assessment of the technical possibilities and in depth thoughts on...

.03 is a "general chair" that can be used in almost all kinds of spaces. The shell, with its linear silhouette an flexible integral foam construction, adapts to the body: when the sitter leans back, the upper part of the backrest yields slightly. Built-in leaf springs give added resilience to the backrest and return it to the original position when pressure is removed. This makes .03 so unexpectedly com .03 offers many advantages, especially for use in public spaces: it can be compactly stacked (up to 20 chairs), has linking connectors with or without seat numbers and is robust and easy to clean....

.03 High caters for the growing need to switch between standing and sitting at work. Rather than raising and lowering the table, users themselves either sit down on the chair or stand at the table. .03 High has no armrests. This means users can sit sideways on it, as well as in several other positions. Its footrest is a helpful support both while sitting and standing. .03 High was created in accordance with Maarten Van Severen's principle of elementary design. The design was realised by Fabian Schwarzler, a Swiss designer who worked as Van Severen's .04 is clearly different from swivel chairs...

.06 The principle behind the cantilevered chair dates back to the 1930s. With the design of .05 and .06, Maarten Van Severen seems to have succeeded in realising a cantilevered chair in its purest form. With other cantiliever chairs, the base frame and seat or backrest were separate elements. With the .05 chair, the frame, seat and backrest are all one piece. This means that despite the change in material between the base frame and the seat, a chair has been created, with a unique and homogenous form. .05* Suitable as a visitor, conference or dining chair. The frame construction offers a high...

The MVS Chaise is perfect fora rest or quick nap. Once again, the chair's comfort is due to its innovative materi- al: the lounge surface is comfortable to relax on for long periods. A leather cushion supports the head. The frame construction makes it easy to change from a sitting to a reclining position A-Table is one of the items of purist furniture which made Maarten Van Severen famous. It has come to be his trademark piece. Like all his pieces, the table stands out for its symbolic shape and carefully balanced propor- tions. The name A-Table refers to the characteristic, A-shaped position...
