Vipp Brochure - 1

From one pedal bin to an entire Vipp family The very first Vipp bin was made in 1939 by craftsman Holger Nielsen who originally intended the bin only for his wife’s hairdressing salon. Today, the original bin has been supplemented by a range of functional tools ideal for the bathroom and kitchen. The new products match the classic pedal bin in terms of design and quality and are made from the characteristic Vipp materials stainless steel and rubber. Today, Vipp has won recognition as an international design icon appreciated by design enthusiasts and architects around the world. On numerous occasions, Vipp has collaborated with international designers and artists in creating one-of-a-kind art objects, which have been exhibited and auctioned off for charity. Vipp is now a third generation family business ready to add new chapters to an already exciting history.

It all begins in 1939 – as a love story The year is 1939, and Holger Nielsen and Marie Axelsen have just married. Marie is a hairdresser, and she decides to open her own salon in Randers, a small town in Denmark. Money is tight, so she asks her husband to help furnish her salon, with among other things a practical and beautiful waste bin. After many hours in the workshop, he is ready to present the Vipp pedal bin to Marie – and she is thrilled. The Vipp bin is never intended to be sold. But, like Marie, the customers in her salon love the bin. Marie’s customers think that the bin is ideal...

A third generation family business Holger Nielsen, the founder of Vipp, passes away in 1992, aged 78. A man with conservative views, he would never have imagined one of his daughters taking over Vipp. However, Jette Egelund, the couple’s youngest daughter, cannot bear to see her father’s life’s work disappear, so she decides to take over the company. At the time, Vipp bins are exclusively sold to medical practices and dental clinics, but Jette Egelund has a dream. She grew up with the pedal bin in her childhood home and wants others to enjoy the bin in their private homes. Since 1992, the...

The foundation of Vipp’s Design DNA derives from the classic pedal bin and is today carried on by Vipp’s Chief Designer, Morten Bo Jensen. “There are distinct similarities between the more than 70-year-old bin and newer Vipp products. 30 bins covered in blue monsters In 2012, Vipp entered the vivid universe of French concept store Colette with 30 exclusive editions by New York-based artist Kevin Lyons. The Danish, design classic was revitalized by Kevin Lyon’s small, signature monsters in Colette’s classic blue colour. “I love to imagine my little blue monsters running wild through Colette each night. Dancing, playing really loud music, snacking at the water- bar, reading fashion magazines. They yell and giggle in French and eat baguettes and party all night long. It’s a pleasure to get to collaborate with a shop that...
