Protecting your investment in hostile conditions Yaw systems enable nacelles to pivot to face the incoming wind – the only way to ensure safe, efficient energy generation. But what happens if the weather conditions are extreme, as regularly occurs in some parts of the world? Hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons can all cause costly damage to blades unless you take preventative steps. The Yaw Power Backup (YPB) system is a combination of sensors and software to control the turbine above standard cut-out speeds. It ensures that the nacelle and blade assembly can continue to yaw accurately in winds of up to 70m/s. For even greater peace of mind, the system can be supplemented with an external diesel generator, allowing the yaw to operate independently even if the grid fails or there is a power outage. Your benefits at a glance: ·· prevents damages on the turbines by keep yawing up wind. ·· has two extra wind sensors for reliable wind measurements during extreme wind conditions up to 70 m/s. ·· has added new procedures to ignore certain warnings and alarms. Not critical to personal safety or material damages. ·· the Power Back-up is connected to the SCADA system and has sufficient power to yaw turbines in the wind park. ·· secures turbines are not producing power to the grid while the Power Back-up is activated. The turbines will be informed that the Power Back-up is in ”Auto” mode.

Customers in parts of the world prone to violent storms will therefore benefit from a number of financial advantages, all adding to their business case certainty: ·· Wind farms with YPB are easier to finance ·· Insurance premiums are generally lower ·· Turbines suffer less damage in the event of adverse weather ·· A faster return to operation means minimal power production is jeopardised Our advanced software, based on extensive simulations and in-the-field testing, ensures...
