VestasOnline® Business is a fully integrated SCADA system designed to help wind farm operators avoid downtime and achieve production and business goals. Developed by experts in wind energy, electrical engineering, and systems, it leverages over 30 years of Vestas' industry experience.

Monitoring and Reporting Capabilities

The system monitors wind turbines, weather stations, and grid measurement points. It collects both online and historical data into an on-site database for detailed reporting, including:

• Online production views
• Event and alarm notifications
• Grid connection point measurements
• Production and performance reports
• Power curve reports

SCADA System Architecture

The system architecture includes customer interfaces for monitoring (real-time data and alarms), reporting (historical data), and control (commands, alarms, setpoints). Server units handle data acquisition and communication over the network.

Wind Farm Control and Optimization

VestasOnline® Business enables advanced wind farm control with features such as:

• Separately controllable ramp-up and ramp-down functions
• Scheduled power factor control
• Time-based curtailment on hourly, daily, or weekly schedules

It supports standard communication protocols (OPC, ODBC, FTP, ModBus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104) for integration with third-party products and higher-level control systems. The system can capture up to 500 one-Hz online signals per turbine.

Alarm and Notification System

Immediate alarm notifications are sent upon faults to enable timely preventive actions, improving wind farm availability and reducing maintenance costs.

Intelligent Power Control

The system measures output power at the grid connection point to continuously optimize injected power. It offers comprehensive control over energy production, power factor, and operational behavior, ensuring flexibility and compliance with local grid requirements worldwide.

Wind Farm Solutions and Scalability

VestasOnline® Business is modular and scalable, adaptable to site-specific needs. Components include:

• Wind farm server application with telecom interface

Additional options include customized screen masks, reports, user-editable reporting data, weather and grid station monitoring, and basic or advanced power regulation modules.

System Variants and Features

For smaller wind farms (up to 12 MW, 1-10 turbines): VestasOnline® Compact II offers a PC-based solution installed at turbine base, providing basic reporting, data export, and email alarm notifications.

For larger wind farms: The full VestasOnline® Business system supports advanced reporting, unlimited client connections, SMS and email alarms, and extensive data logging.

Reliability and Redundancy

The system core includes a highly reliable server, redundant storage, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), scheduled data backup via tape drives, and redundant Ethernet topology for fault-tolerant communication. This ensures maximum reliability even during temporary wind farm performance issues.

Integration with Power Plant Controller (PPC)

VestasOnline® Business integrates seamlessly with the VestasOnline® Power Plant Controller, which provides:

• Fast, deterministic wind farm control
• Redundant control points

• Compliance with stringent grid connection requirements

For highly demanding grid codes, the PPC can also control additional substation components like STATCOMs and MSCs.
