Fire Suppression System The Vestas turbines can be equipped with a system of smoke sensors as a first line of defense against the development of a fire. If one of the sensors is activated, the turbine will shut down. As a second line of defense, a temperature-activated Fire Suppression System can be optionally installed to automatically extinguish a fire. The Fire Suppression System’s layout targets the main risk areas and is optimized to fit the respective turbine types. The system is in itself a closed loop and is activated only when its tubing is ruptured. The fire suppression agent is a residue-free, non-corrosive, electrically non-conductive fluid. The agent is the most environmentally friendly on the market today, with an ozone depletion potential of 0 and global warming potential of 1. A pressure switch monitoring the tubing’s pressure signals to the turbine or SCADA to shut down if an incident has occurred. Coverage for the transformer space in the V100-1.8 MW.
