Installation Instructions for UPM ProFi® Deck with Aluminium Railing
Overview: UPM ProFi Deck is an eco-friendly decking solution made from a durable wood plastic composite, primarily using recycled paper and plastic. It can be installed using T-clips or an aluminium railing system, which offers enhanced strength and aesthetics.
Specifications:
  • Support rails should be placed on a hard, flat surface that drains well, such as concrete or stone granulate. They do not need to be fixed to the ground.
  • For raised decks, timber joists are recommended.
  • Maximum spacing between support centres is 400mm.
  • Pre-drill an oval hole in the decking board's bottom tongue for expansion using a 5mm drill bit.
  • Use a 4x40mm inox A4 screw for timber screwing, allowing for board edge movement due to expansion.
  • For concrete tiles, the maximum inner distance spacing is 200mm, with minimum tile dimensions of 150mm x 200mm x 40mm.
Installation Procedure:
  • Cut the aluminium rail to match the length of the ProFi Decking board.
  • Tap the aluminium rail into the decking board edge groove using a rubber hammer.
  • Screw the aluminium rail into position to secure the decking board tongue onto the support rail.
  • Use a timber screw 4x40mm A4 or a special screw for aluminium screwing (e.g., 3.9x39mm A4).
  • Ensure a 6mm expansion gap at the end of decking boards and between aluminium rails.
  • Fix the cover strip around the terrace edge for a finished look.
Materials and Tools Needed:
  • UPM ProFi Deck Boards (28mm x 150mm): 6.6m per 1m2
  • UPM ProFi Deck Support Rails or timber joists
  • UPM ProFi Deck Cover Strip
  • UPM ProFi Deck Alu Rail
  • Stainless steel screws (4x40mm) A4 and special screws for aluminium screwing (e.g., 3.9x32mm) A4
  • Power screwdriver, 5mm drill, hacksaw, wood saw, rubber hammer
Cutting Instructions:
  • Use normal woodworking tools to cut UPM ProFi material.
  • For a perfect end finish, turn the section upside down when cutting and chamfer the top edge of the decking board ends with a small hand plane.
  • Cut UPM ProFi Alu Rail with a hacksaw.
Expansion Gaps: All composite decks expand and contract with temperature changes. A 6mm gap is recommended for expansion in boards 3m and longer to prevent damage.
