Il mosaico d’oro La possibilità di far aderire al vetro delle sottili foglie metalliche d'oro fu scoperta in epoca romana. L'esteso impiego di tessere musive di questo tipo per i fondi d'oro risale al IV secolo d.C. prima in Spagna e Grecia e poi in tutta l'area del Mediterraneo. Il suo fascino è stato nei secoli quasi l'emblema stesso del mosaico, fino ad essere talora inteso come il mosaico per antonomasia. Ma come nasce il mosaico d'oro?
