Akvacoat is a classified M1 two-component waterborne epoxy paint designed for new and old concrete floors, including those previously treated with epoxy coatings. It is also suitable for interior concrete, brick, and mineral board surfaces.

Recommended Uses

Intended for industrial, repair shop, and storage floors subject to light mechanical and chemical stress. Suitable for garage floors, balconies, cellars, and similar areas. The product is for professional use only.

Application Details

Conditions

Concrete relative humidity must be below 97%. Air, surface, and paint temperature should be at least +15°C with air humidity below 80% during application and drying.

Surface Preparation

New Concrete: Remove laitance by sanding or hydrochloric acid pickling (1 part acid to 4 parts water), rinse thoroughly, ensure dry and solid substrate.
Old Concrete Floors: Clean thoroughly to remove grease, oil, chemicals, and impurities using Tikkurila Maalipesu Cleaning Agent, sanding or blast-cleaning. Remove loose paint films. Repair cracks and holes with cement-based or epoxy fillers, sand smooth before painting.

Painting Procedure

Mix components mechanically 1-2 minutes separately before combining.
Add hardener to paint at 3:1 volume ratio and mix with slow-speed drill for 3-5 minutes.
Prime with Akvacoat diluted 30-40% with water; thinner added to ready compound and mixed carefully.
Finish coat can be applied earliest 16 hours after priming, diluted 10-35% with water.

Non-Slip Treatment

To improve grip, add Non-Slip Agent powder (0.3 l per 10 l paint) to Akvacoat diluted with 20 vol-% water. Apply first coat normally, then after drying (within 24 hours), apply non-slip coat with short-pile roller. If insufficient, apply a second coat after 2 hours. Avoid thick coats that remain jelly-like.

Tool Cleaning

Clean tools with water and synthetic cleaning agents. Use Tikkurila Pensselipesu for partially hardened paint.

Maintenance Instructions

Final durability and chemical resistance develop after 2 weeks. Avoid cleaning during this period. Clean with brush, mop, or cloth. For heavily soiled surfaces, use neutral detergent (pH 6-8).

Fill cracks, o pened ho llo ws and ho les with e.g . a cement based filler o r with an epo xy filler. Sand the filled spo ts to the same level as the surro unding surface befo re painting . The co mpo nents are mixed mechanically and separately 1-2 minutes befo re adding the B-part into the A-part. Add the hardener to the paint (3:1 by vo lume) and mix using a paint mixer attached to a po wer drill (mixing time appro x. 3-5 min). Use a slo w ro tatio n speed. Careless mixing o r an inco rrect mixing ratio may put the wo rk at risk. Prime with Akvaco at epo xy paint diluted 30-40 % with water.
