Airtech Blocks

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Airtec Aerated Concrete Blocks are manufactured by Thomas Armstrong and are known for their technical properties and physical characteristics. They are produced to meet BS EN 771-4 standards and are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.

Specifications
Airtec blocks are available in various sizes and strengths, including 3.6N and 7.3N. They have low thermal conductivity and meet TLMB dimensional tolerance standards. The blocks are BBA certified and suitable for a range of construction applications.

Technical Properties
1. Walled weight is calculated for single-leaf walls plastered on both sides.
2. Sound reduction values are based on wall mass with plastered finishes.
3. Block weights include natural moisture content.
4. Fire resistance is tested to BS 5628-3 standards.

Block Dimensions
Wall blocks are available in sizes such as 620mm x 215mm with varying thicknesses. Foundation blocks and large format blocks are also available.

Applications
Airtec blocks are suitable for use in cavity walls, acoustic separating walls, and below-ground applications. They are durable up to Design Sulphate class DS-3.

Fire Resistance
Airtec blocks are non-combustible and classified as category ‘A1’ according to BS EN 13501-1. Fire resistance periods vary based on block thickness and finish.

Mortars and Rendering
Airtec blocks provide a good surface for mortars. A weaker mortar mix is recommended, and traditional renders should be applied in two coats.

Wall Ties and Movement Joints
Wall ties should be embedded 50mm into mortar, and movement joints should be placed at intervals no greater than 6m.

Good Site Practice
Blocks should be stored on firm ground, and manual handling precautions are necessary for blocks over 20kg. Blocks should not be laid if the temperature is below 3°C.

Conclusion
Airtec blocks offer a versatile solution for various construction needs, providing excellent thermal and acoustic properties, fire resistance, and ease of use in construction.

Airtech Blocks-2

Aerated concrete blocks The table below shows examples of how cavity walls built with an Airtec XL 2.9N block inner leaf can meet a range of u-value targets. For specific calculations, please contact our technical department. Airtec block surfaces offer a good surface for accepting mortars. On dry blocks, rather than wetting the blocks we recommend adjusting the consistency of the mortar to suit the suction of the block. The weakest mortar mixture appropriate to the structural requirements should be selected as per BS 5628-3. A weaker mix should always be used with Airtec blocks. Partially Filled...
