Enduring style Choosing outdoor furniture by Tectona reflects a certain taste for aesthetics that transcend their period and are always in visual harmony with their surroundings. «Contemporary classic» The strength of our design forged the brand’s signature style, to the extent that it rapidly achieved «classic» status in the world of outdoor furniture, which at the time was limited to parks and gardens. With discreet but decisive changes, our design has evolved in parallel with the evolution of outdoor living, which expanded to new territory such as swimming pools and urban patios. New...

The creative spirit Intertwined with the history of design In 1977, a newly created French brand, Tectona, made a striking first impression in the outdoor furniture sector with models that drew inspiration from country life across the Channel and from the Arts and Crafts movement that emerged in the late 19th century in Great Britain. The now-iconic image of a man immersed in reading while sitting on a Circle Bench encircling an oak tree and who is lifted into the air as the tree grows encapsulates our philosophy: inspired furniture, bringing together traditional craftsmanship and...

Tectona grandis Across oceans to parks and English gardens The characteristics of teak (Tectona grandis) have been known in tropical Asia for over 2000 years. Its density, the ease with which it can be worked but also its resistance made it an obvious choice for architecture, particularly palaces and temples, but also boatbuilding, especially because it produces an oily substance that prevents the formation of rust on nails and other metallic objects. In the middle of the 18th century, the British navy was building teak vessels at its shipbuilding yards in Bombay in India. A century later,...

Tectona, noble teak Teak is a truly remarkable wood: it does not rot; it is resistant to the vagaries of weather, from droughts to humidity; it can withstand temperature variations and prolonged exposure to sunshine or sea spray. It symbolises all the qualities sought by Tectona for its furniture. A wood unlike others We seek out the best logs, which are then worked with the utmost care at every stage, from the cutting of the trunks then the slats to the several assemblies using mortise-and-tenon joints in accordance with traditional techniques. The nobility of this wood lends itself to...

We are in a state of perpetual renewal, imagining tomorrow's classics. Materials such as woven resin and aluminium are worked with the same rigour as teak to provide ease of use and at the same time to preserve the comfort and elegance that are deeply ingrained in the Tectona culture. Woven resin A haute couture mesh ideal for the outdoors At the start of the 2000s, Tectona incorporated woven resin into its furniture collections. This 100% recyclable material, made from polyethylene, is remarkably light and malleable; resulting furniture is easy to move and has fluid contours. The ideal...

A collection… The inspiration for this collection was the wrought iron bench owned by Madeleine Castaing (1894-1992), who was a central figure in the Montparnasse scene in the interwar period. Madeleine Castaing was a patron of the painters Amadeo Modigliani and Chaïm Soutine and exercised her talents as a decorater for several leading figures of the day, including Jean Cocteau and Francine Weisweiller, and in doing so propagated the «Castaing» style. Today, 1800 is a very complete collection of furniture and accessories. The elegance of the Directory style The 1800 collection is inspired by...

Strokes reminiscent... The colour black seemed predestined to blend harmoniously into landscapes. It works perfectly with the colours of nature —the blue of the sky or sea, the green of leaves— but also with the mineral colours of cities... The black serves to highlight the contours, akin to a stroke of India ink. This famous collection pays tribute to Madeleine Castaing. ...of India ink Low armchair Available in blue-grey or matt black Low armchair Available in blue-grey or matt black Footrest Available in blue-grey or matt black Two-seater sofa Available in blue-grey or matt black...
