String® System String® was born in 1949. That year, Sweden’s biggest publishing house, Bonniers, arranged a competition to design a new bookshelf. The challenge was to come up with a design that combined extraordinary functionality with a distinctly modern look. The winning entry was String®, designed by Nisse and Kajsa Strinning. Plex panels was developed by Nisse and Kajsa Strinning in 1954. It was the first reinterpretation of the original String® System. Laser-cut clear Perspex means the shelves seem to hover, giving the whole unit an ultra-light appearance. Plex is available in two depths, 20cm and 30cm.
