A spatial sculpture The German pavilion, or “Balancity” – a contraction of balance/equilibrium and city/town – defines itself as the image of a Harmonious City combining diversity and density, modernity and tradition, in response to the Universal Exhibition’s “Better City, Better Life” theme. The textile facade subtly emulates the silk of Chinese umbrellas. Its appearance varies with the changing scenography and climatic conditions.
