Project Overview
The Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar, with its rich history in art and architecture, undertook a restoration project for two significant buildings: the Van-de-Velde-Building and the Bauhaus Atelier. Challenges
The restoration required glass products that met both historical authenticity and modern construction standards. The Van-de-Velde-Building needed thinner insulated glass to fit historic frames, while the Bauhaus Atelier required complex angled panes for its metal framework.

Solutions
SCHOTT utilized its TIKANA® restoration glass for the Van-de-Velde-Building, featuring an irregular surface and sun protection coating. The glass units were made thinner by reducing the space between panes and using krypton gas for insulation. For the Bauhaus Atelier, SCHOTT developed a laminate using RESTOVER® glass, resembling historic glass, and white glass to avoid green tint, joined with PVB foils for enhanced protection and reduced UVA transmission.

Materials and Techniques
SCHOTT's restoration glasses, RESTOVER® and TIKANA®, are produced using the traditional Fourcault process to achieve the characteristic irregular structure of historic glass. The use of PVB foil and noble gas krypton further improved the thermal and mechanical properties of the glass units.

Conclusion
The project highlighted SCHOTT's capability in combining traditional glass manufacturing techniques with modern technological advancements to meet complex restoration requirements.
