GEWE-composite

Product catalog summary
Introduction to GEWE-composite®
GEWE-composite® is a high-tech material that combines the properties of glass and transparent polymers, offering a weight reduction of up to 30%. It is a laminated glass made of thin mono glasses bonded with a transparent plastic core, enhancing its application in construction.

Key Benefits
  • Weight reduction of up to 30%.
  • High resistance to breakage and residual load-bearing capacity.
  • Integration of fixing elements is possible.
  • Design freedom with innovative cold-bent glass.
  • High UV permeability depending on the application.

Technical Specifications
  • Comparison with traditional laminated safety glass shows significant advantages in weight and mechanical properties.
  • Shear modulus at 40°C is approximately 1.5 N/mm2 compared to 0.4 N/mm2 for traditional glass.
  • Higher UV light passage (47.6% to 67.2%) compared to traditional glass (15.6%).
  • Demonstrates no glass breakage under a falling steel ball test, unlike traditional glass.
  • Maintains residual carrying capacity for over 24 hours even when both glass panes are destroyed.

Applications and Innovations
GEWE-composite® allows for greater activation of the composite effect and enables cylindrically cold deformed panes. It supports the integration of various elements like metal angles, enhancing connectivity between glass and sub-constructions. The material is noted for its transparency, high resistance to ageing and weathering, mechanical strength, flatness, minimal risk of fracturing, and higher elasticity.

Conclusion
GEWE-composite® represents a significant advancement in construction materials, offering enhanced performance and design flexibility while reducing weight and maintaining high durability.

Catalog excerpts

GEWE-composite-1

The new lightness in construction and architecture GEWE-composite® is the name given to a new high-tech material which creates a symbiosis of the properties of glass and transparent polymers and boasts weight saving of up to 30 %. GEWE-composite® is a laminated glass, consisting of two (or more) thin mono glasses (from 1.9 mm thick), which are stuck in a shear connection using a transparent plastic core. The complexity of the characteristics found in GEWEcomposite® enables a variety of improved applications in the field of construction. Benefits of GEWE-composite®: Significant weight reduction of up to 30 % High resistance to breakage and residual load bearing capacity Integration of fixing elements possible Maximum design freedom in construction and dimensions through an innovative cold-bent glass without elastic recovery High UV permeability (depending on application)

GEWE-composite-2

GEWE-composite® opens up perspectives, which on the one hand enable greater activation of the composite effect and on the other, realise cylindrically cold deformed panes. In addition, the lightweight glass technology allows the integration of various elements (e.g. metal angles) in the composite material and as such, to connect glass and sub-constructions. In addition to the lower net weight, GEWE-composite® is characterised by transparency, high resistance to ageing and weathering, a high mechanical strength, perfect flatness, a minimal risk of fracturing and higher elasticity.
