Product catalog summary
Description and Application
The SCHAKO smoke detection system, consisting of the RMSII-L smoke detector and RM V4.00 relay module, is designed for early fire detection by automatically triggering and switching operations upon detecting cold smoke (<72°). It is suitable for installation in ventilation ducts to prevent smoke propagation by closing fire or smoke dampers. The system operates on a 'zero-current closed' principle and requires a relay module for power supply.
Advantages
The system offers external monitoring by VdS Schadensverhütung GmbH, automatic tampering detection, self-function tests, and system monitoring. It is compatible with the Signalling and Switching Bus System + Easy Bus and requires annual maintenance. It holds patents and approvals including DE 199 51 403 A1, EP 122 4641, and VdS Approval G209206.
Installation and Mounting
The smoke detector should be installed in the airflow, not in the fire damper's inspection opening, and must be free of vibration. It requires a 120 mm diameter hole and specific mounting procedures. The system must be cleaned before initial startup to avoid false alarms.
Functionality
The RMSII-L uses a scattered light principle with two sensors to detect smoke. It requires multiple measurement cycles to confirm contamination before triggering an alarm. The system can be reset remotely and includes self-monitoring features for tampering and soiling.
Technical Data
The RMS system operates at 24 V DC with a maximum current consumption of 25 mA. It includes potential-free change-over contacts for alarm and fault outputs. The relay module facilitates easy testing and resetting of alarms.
Maintenance
Annual maintenance is required, or sooner if a fault message due to contamination occurs. Installation and wiring must be performed by authorized personnel.
Installation and Safety Regulations
Installation, wiring, and commissioning of the SCHAKO smoke detector type RMSΙΙ-L must adhere to technical, safety, and accident prevention regulations, VDE guidelines, local EVU regulations, and manufacturer instructions. Proper earthing of shielding in junction boxes is essential.
Maintenance Instructions
The smoke detector continuously monitors itself and alerts the central unit in case of defects or excessive soiling. A fault message is also sent during power failures. Maintenance is required annually and includes:
  • Checking installation and use during commissioning and after modifications.
  • Ensuring electrical connections are correct and in good condition.
  • Verifying the diode on the smoke detector or relay module flashes orange, indicating readiness.
  • Testing electrical functionality by disconnecting the power supply, which should trigger an alarm and automatic closure of connected devices.
  • Conducting fault control by covering sensors to ensure the fault contact reports correctly.
  • Using test aerosols to verify alarm functionality and automatic closure of connected devices.
  • Immediate elimination of detected defects using original parts from SCHAKO.
Product Specifications
The RMS smoke detection system is designed for flush installation with ducts or fire dampers. It includes a housing, base, cover plate, mounting frame, and connecting cable. The system uses a scattered light procedure to measure air contamination without a detection chamber. Alarm and fault messages are communicated via a potential-free change-over contact. Manual triggering is possible with a reset button.
Assembly and Accessories
Assembly parts are available for duct installation, with options for rubber lip seals or flanges. The system includes a relay module for power supply and alarm transmission, with a transformer for 230 V AC connection and 24 V DC connection. Accessories include assembly parts for simple duct installation and relay modules.
