Introduction
Large format slabs are defined as slabs with one or both dimensions exceeding 60 cm, as per UNI 11493-1:2016.

Storage and Handling
Slabs of 60x120 and 120x120 cm are shipped on pallets with protective cages, stackable up to 3-4 pallets high. Larger slabs (120x240 and 120x260 cm) are packed in wooden crates, stackable up to 5 crates. Suitable forklifts with adjusted forks are required for handling.

Adhesive Selection
Choosing the right adhesive is crucial, considering factors like end use, conditions, support type, and slab size. Recommendations include Class C2 adhesives for traditional supports, quick-setting adhesives for cold climates, and extended open time adhesives for hot climates. Specific adhesives are suggested for low-porosity supports and external walls.

Handling Before Installation
Careful handling is necessary to prevent damage. Two workers are recommended for 60x120 cm slabs, while four are preferred for larger slabs, using suction cup devices. Slabs should be stably positioned for adhesive application.

Installation Technique
Proper installation is essential for performance. Full-bed adhesion is critical, with a continuous and compact adhesive layer. Open-joint installation is recommended to reduce detachment and cracking risks. Technical joints manage mechanical and hygrothermic stresses.

Tile Installation and Joint Specifications

Tile Edges and Joints: Tile edges are inserted into joints for better support. Perimeter joints are placed around the tiled area and against structural elements. Subdivision joints penetrate the slab, adhesive, and a third of the screed, while expansion joints go through the slab and adhesive only.
Sizing Subdivision Joints: For interiors, the area should be 24-25 m², and for exteriors, 9-10 m², with a length/width ratio of less than 1.5. Joint width depends on stresses and joint material elasticity.

Floor Installation Steps

Adhesive Application: Spread adhesive with a 10mm-toothed trowel in one direction, preferably parallel to the short side for rectangular slabs. Apply adhesive on the slab's rear with a 3mm-toothed trowel in the same direction.
Slab Positioning: Carefully position the slab using handling tools. Vibrate using a manual or electric tile vibrator from the center to the sides.
Adhesive Setting: Wait for the adhesive to set before walking on the surface. Protect joints from dust and dirt before grouting.

Wall Installation Tips

Adhesive Application: Follow similar steps as floor installation. For visible safety systems, anchor clips before spreading adhesive. For invisible systems, cut the slab's back before adhesive application.
Slab Positioning: Use suction frames for delicate movements. Ensure proper alignment and leveling of adjacent slabs.
Adhesive Setting: Allow adhesive to set before performing operations on the cladding.

Cutting and Drilling

Equipment: Use professional water cutters for high-quality cuts. For dry cutting, select tools based on the cut type and slab format. Ensure slabs are on a stable surface to absorb vibrations.
Cutting Techniques: Use diamond blades with guides for larger formats. Apply uniform pressure and maintain constant movement along the cut line. Use pliers for breaking along the cut line.
Drilling Techniques: For circular holes, use diamond drills with constant water misting to reduce friction and extend tool life. For rectangular or square openings, drill holes at corners and connect them with a diamond blade.
