Product catalog summary
Product Description
Fortress Flexshield™ is a flexible flashing product designed for windows and doors, particularly suitable for half-round, elliptical windows, and arched doorways. It provides a seamless method for forming pan flashing in window sills and creates a strong barrier against moisture by sealing perimeters to building substrates. The product features a butyl adhesive that performs well in temperatures as low as 30°F and is compatible with common caulks and sealants. It adheres excellently to materials like housewrap, vinyl, OSB, plywood, concrete, and metals, and can be exposed for up to 12 months during construction.
Installation Guidelines
For optimal results, surfaces should be clean and dry, and Flexshield should be applied at temperatures above 30°F. In very cold conditions, priming with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive is recommended. For sill flashing, cut the flashing 12” longer than the opening width, apply it without stretching, and ensure it extends 6” up the sides. For head flashing on curved windows or doors, measure the arch, add one foot, and ensure a 6” overlap with the straight jamb flashing. Secure with nails or staples until the adhesive sets.
Recommended Applications
  • Round/Elliptical Window Flashing
  • Pan Flashing of Window Sills
  • Arched Doorway Flashing

Flexshield-1

Flexible Self-Adhering Window & Door Flashing PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Fortress Flexshield™ is a flexible window and door flashing designed to conform to half round or elliptical windows and arched doorways. Flexshield also provides a conformable seamless method for forming a pan flashing in window sills. It seals door and window perimeters to building substrates creating an impenetrable barrier. This butyl adhesive is designed to be installed in a wide range of temperatures down to 30°F. It does not react to solvent based materials and is very compatible with common caulks and sealants. Fortress Flexshield has excellent adhesion to typical building materials such as housewrap, vinyl, OSB, plywood, concrete, aluminum and other metals. It can be left exposed for up to 12 months during the construction process. GENERAL SURFACE APPLICATION The surface should be clean, dry and free of dirt and other foreign matter. For best results Flexshield should be applied at a temperature above 30°F. For very cold weather installations we recommend priming the surface with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive and storing the rolls in a warm area prior to use. or door according to the manufacturers installation guidelines. After the window or door installation, simply measure the curved portion of the arch and add one foot to determine the flashing cut length. Remove a portion of the release liner and position Flexshield at least 6” overlapping the straight jam flashing. Continue to conform tightly along the entire curved edge of the window or door and press firmly into place. Supplement adhesion of the flashing with nails or staples until adhesive strengthens over time. For sill flashing applications, begin by cutting a length of flashing at least 12” longer than the width of the rough opening. Peel off the release liner and position it so the Flexshield edge is applied (without stretching) along the back inside edge of the rough opening. It should extend at least 6” up the sides of the opening. Once firmly applied to the inside of the opening slowly stretch Flexshield around to the face of the opening. Firmly apply pressure to achieve FORTRESS FLEXSHIELD TYPICAL PROPERTIES maximum surface contact.
