Spacetherm PP

Spacetherm PP

Product catalog summary
Overview
Spacetherm® PP is a high-performance laminate designed for direct application to solid walls, combining aerogel insulation with plasterboard or plywood. It offers excellent thermal performance with minimal thickness, making it ideal for refurbishment projects where space is limited.

Key Features
  • Thin insulation system suitable for challenging walls.
  • Superior thermal performance.
  • Minimal room space loss.
  • Direct application to solid walls.
  • Long-term thermal performance exceeding 50 years.
  • Integrated vapour control layer.
  • Non-hazardous material.

Installation
Spacetherm® PP can be fixed directly to walls using shot-fired nails or traditional batten methods. Fixings should not exceed 500mm centers. Drilling is discouraged but may be necessary for wiring; care should be taken to compress the panel to avoid insulation fibers wrapping around the drill bit.

Internal & External Angles
Panels should be cut to allow jointing of plasterboard and continuous insulation at wall angles. Refer to the Installation Guide for details.

Partition Walls
For partitions abutting external walls with Spacetherm® PP, the insulation should ideally return onto the partition or stop at the junction.

Physical Properties
  • Panel size: 2400 x 1200mm
  • Plasterboard thickness: 9.5mm
  • Plywood thickness: 6mm
  • Aerogel thickness: 5, 10, 15mm
  • Vapour Control Layer: 58.5 MNs/g
  • K-Factor: Plasterboard 0.190W/mK, Aerogel 0.015W/mK
  • Fire Resistance: Plasterboard Class 1 (BS476), Aerogel Class C-s1, d0 (EN 13501-1)

U-value Performance
Spacetherm® PP provides varying U-values depending on thickness, significantly improving thermal performance over a base wall construction.

Reveals
Spacetherm® WRB is designed for window reveals, using aerogel insulation bonded to plasterboard or fermacell. Reveals should be treated similarly to internal and external angles.

Floor & Ceiling Details
Remove skirting boards before installation and reapply with adhesive. Panels should be cut close to the ceiling, with gaps filled using PU Foam or plaster filler.

Taping & Filling Joints
Before decoration, panels should be cleaned, taped, and filled. A skim coat may be applied based on the desired finish.

Cutting
Panels can be cut with a jigsaw or circular saw. Care should be taken to avoid damaging insulation layers. Cut-outs for sockets should be made before fixing panels to the wall.

Health & Safety
Handling and cutting Spacetherm® PP may cause skin drying; gloves and dust masks are recommended. Ensure proper ventilation and use personal protective equipment as necessary.

Spacetherm PP-1

THERMAL SOLUTIONS OVERVIEW Spacetherm® PP (plasterboard / plywood) is a high performance reinforced laminate specifically designed to be directly fixed to existing solid walls. Spacetherm® aerogel insulation blanket is bonded to a plasterboard / plywood composite, for use in applications where low U-values are required with limited space. Spacetherm® PP lining boards can achieve similar performance to traditional plasterboard laminates, but at a fraction of the thickness, allowing specifiers greater flexibility and higher performance for refurbishment projects. Thin insulation system for hard to treat walls. The best thermal performance available. Minimum loss of room space. Direct fix to solid walls. Constant long term thermal performance 50 years+. Includes an integrated vapour control layer. Non-Hazardous material. Image showing Spacetherm® PP applied internally to a reveal on an existing external wall structure. INSTALLATION Spacetherm® PP can be directly fixed to existing walls either by using shot fired nails or by fixing to battens in the traditional manner. Fixings should be at no more than 500mm centres. Although drilling is not recommended it may be required for wiring and services. When drilling, care should be taken to compress the panel as much as possible to reduce insulation fibres wrapping around the drill bit. Image showing Spacetherm® PP components. Aerogel insulation bonded to Plywood which is bonded to Plasterboard. INTERNAL & EXTERNAL ANGLES Spacetherm® panels should be cut in such a way to allow for the jointing of the plasterboard and an unbroken run of insulation to the existing wall in both internal and external angles. Refer to Installation Guide for further details. PARTITION WALLS Where an internal partition abutts an external wall with Spacetherm® PP lining, ideally Spacetherm® PP should be returned onto the partition or alternatively stopped at the junction. THERMAL SOLUTIONS REVEALS Spacetherm® WRB (window reveal board) is a high performance laminate specifically designed to be fixed or glued to the existing solid wall. Spacetherm® WRB consists of Spacetherm® aerogel insulation blanket bonded to plasterboard or fermacell with or without plywood reinforcement. For use in applications where low U-values are required with limited space. Any reveals such as those which may occur at windows, doors etc, should be treated in the same manner as the internal and external angles mentioned above.
