Cala di Volpe

Product catalog summary
Project Overview
The Cala di Volpe hotel, originally designed by French architect Jacques Couëlle in the 1960s, is a hallmark of Mediterranean style and luxury. Recently, it underwent a renovation by the Parisian agency Moinard Bétaille Studio, led by Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille. The renovation aimed to preserve the original spirit while modernizing the facilities.

Renovation Approach
The renovation was described as 'surgical,' with some areas left untouched and others undergoing significant yet subtle changes. The goal was to maintain the hotel's historical essence while integrating modern comforts and technologies invisibly.

Guest Considerations
The renovation took into account the hotel's long-standing guests, some of whom have been visiting for decades. The updates aimed to enhance comfort and luxury without altering the personal connection guests have with the hotel.

Modernization Efforts
Key updates included the installation of air conditioning and other modern amenities, ensuring they remained invisible to maintain the hotel's aesthetic. The design also considered the contemporary traveler's familiarity with luxury and diversity.

Design and Furniture
Every detail of the hotel rooms was reconsidered, from furniture design to lighting. Bespoke furniture was created to complement the hotel's unique style, including pieces with bronze elements inspired by seaweed, developed in collaboration with Poliform.

Luxury Redefined
The concept of luxury in the renovation focused on comfort and subtlety, ensuring guests feel well-treated through invisible design elements like soft lighting and sound attenuation.

Collaboration with Poliform
Poliform contributed to the project by developing custom bronze elements that were 3D printed, combining traditional aesthetics with modern technology.

Conclusion
The renovation of Cala di Volpe successfully blends the original architectural vision with contemporary luxury, ensuring the hotel remains a cherished destination for future generations.

“Our work was almost surgical: in some areas, we touched nearly nothing, whilst in others we performed a sort of invisible revolution”.

Cala di Volpe-26

Did you consider the guests when renovating Cala di Volpe? Yes. This hotel is unusual in that it has welcomed families from three generations; people have been staying in the same bedroom every year for 20, even 30 years. We were renovating their holiday home - not just a hotel room, but something much more personal. How did you transform a hotel from the 1960s into a contemporary hotel? We made quite a few changes. Primarily, there are technical differences: now we are able to provide guests with air conditioning and any other creature comforts, both in the bedroom and in the bathroom. We integrated...
