Product catalog summary
Overview
Eden Park, New Zealand's premier sports ground, underwent significant redevelopment to enhance its big-match experience. Philips Lighting was tasked with providing a floodlighting solution suitable for both rugby and cricket, as well as illuminating the new south stand to enhance the stadium's atmosphere.
Challenges
The project faced challenges such as meeting international HDTV broadcasting standards, using stadium roofs for mounting floodlights, and addressing local resident concerns about light spillage and glare. Additionally, the lighting solution for the south stand needed to highlight its architecture without overpowering its design.
Solutions
Philips installed 482 ArenaVision MVF404 floodlights, designed for outdoor sports stadiums, offering increased light output and optical efficiency. These floodlights use about 10% less energy than conventional systems and require less maintenance. The Philips Dynalite lighting control system allows for easy switching between different sporting codes.
For the south stand, Philips used 24 ColorReach Powercore LED floodlights, each using only 280w at full output. The Philips Color Kinetics LED system provides limitless options for color change light shows, controlled by Philips' iPlayer 3 with a palette of over 360,000 colors.
Benefits
The lighting solutions exceeded expectations, enhancing the ambience and experience at Eden Park. The LED lights can be tailored for future events, including special lighting formulas for the Super 15 rugby competition. Philips' proactive approach and expertise added significant value, staying within budget while delivering beyond expectations.
