Facade Technical Guide Summary
Introduction
Facade panels are high-density laminate timber panels used in ventilated façade systems. They are designed for vertical decorative coverings on building facades, requiring proper installation for optimal performance and longevity.
Product Features
  • Quality and Certifications: The panels meet high-quality standards and hold certifications such as DIT (Spain), AVIS Technique (France), Zulassung (Germany), and BBA (UK).
  • Environmental Sustainability: Parklex follows an Environmental Sustainability strategy, certified by ISO 14001 and PEFC, ensuring sustainable forest management and product lifecycle analysis.
  • Technical Datasheet: Made from natural timber veneer and paper fibers treated with resins, the panels offer UV and weather resistance, with Everlook® for enhanced color stability.
Transport and Storage
Panels should be transported horizontally, securely strapped, and protected to prevent damage, avoiding rough objects between panels.
Handling
  • Cutting and Drilling: Specific guidelines are provided to maintain panel integrity.
  • Panel Curving: Instructions for curving panels are included.
Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning procedures are outlined to maintain panel appearance.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Guidelines for ongoing maintenance and repair are provided.
Installation Systems
  • General Instructions: Details on ventilated chambers, expansion joints, panel thickness, and substructure requirements are included.
  • Fixing Systems: Various methods are described, including exposed screws, hidden fixings, and adhesive systems.
  • Installation Details: Specifics on window and corner details are provided.
Technical Specifications
Detailed technical specifications include dimensional tolerances, physical properties, and safety requirements.
Technical Standards and Recommendations
Specific technical documents, such as Avis Technique (CSTB) in France or British Board of Agremènt (BBA) in the UK, should take precedence over general recommendations. Building insurers may also have applicable standards.
Ventilated Chamber
Panels must be installed with a ventilated chamber, separated from the wall by vertical profiles, ensuring a minimum free space of 30 mm. Proper air circulation is essential, with ventilation at the head and base of the chamber being ≥20 mm. Vertical subdivision is recommended to prevent fire spread.
Permeability and Protection
The ventilated system allows for water vapor diffusion, preventing condensation and providing protection against rain infiltration. It also offers thermal insulation by eliminating thermal bridges, improving solar protection, and enhancing acoustic protection.
Expansion Joints
Necessary around panel perimeters to absorb expansion movements. For panels measuring 2.44 x 1.22 m, joints should be at least 6 to 8 mm, preferably 10 mm. Sealing joints with flexible materials is not recommended.
Panel Thickness and Support
Panel thickness is chosen based on the element to be covered. For external facades, 8 or 10 mm thickness is ideal. Panels must be supported at least at three points, with distances depending on mounting type and panel thickness.
Substructure Requirements
A substructure of vertical profiles is necessary for air circulation. It must be designed according to wind load and protected against corrosion. Timber substructures should be treated, while metal substructures are preferred in humid areas.
Fixing Systems
Parklex offers four fixing systems: exposed screws or rivets, hidden fixings with plugs, special panel brackets with horizontal rails, and hidden adhesive systems. Counter-sunk head screws are not allowed as they restrict panel movement.

1. Product features __Características del producto Facade is a high-density timber faced panel, manufactured with a core of paper fibres treated with thermosetting resins. These are compressed at a high temperature and pressure and protected by an exterior coating highly resistant to UV radiation and weathering. Facade panels include Everlook®, a component introduced into the wood to provide outstanding life-cycle benefit in terms of colour stability, in all climatic conditions with no varnish need at all over the years. It also allows the development of new finishes to our range of timber veneers....

The panels must be correctly strapped down for transport, bearing in mind that they slide over each other easily and may become damaged. They must always be transported horizontally. The panels must never be transported loose or with broken straps. For short trips, inside workshops or at the construction site, fasten the panels using straps whilst protecting the edges in contact with the straps with cardboard protectors. Avoid the presence of rough objects or sharp edges between panels that may damage or scratch their surface. When moving panels on the same stack, lift them so that they do not...

Standard requirements should be kept in mind when handling Facade panels, especially with regards to: __Se deberán tener en cuenta los requerimientos habituales de seguridad durante la manipulación de tableros Facade, especialmente en relación con: saws. Flat, trapezoidal tooth profiles are the most efficient. The number of teeth should be between 24 and 60, depending on the diameter. The blade teeth should always enter on the panel’s good face. Table saws generally have the good face pointing up, as the blade rotates with the blade cutting on the ‘downstroke’. Hand held circular saws generally...

5. Cleaning and maintenance __Limpieza y mantenimiento curvature radius will depend on the thickness of the material. The thinner the material, the tighter the curves, in other words, the smaller the radius. As seen in the table, when installing the panels on a curved structure, the distance between vertical profiles must be reduced....
