Earth works-3

The beauty of stone has been admired for thousands of years Its core properties have been prized by sculptors throughout the centuries, leading the way in creating basic dwellings to soaring temples, together with floors, walls and roof tiles. Once it was the only building material available and its strong and beautiful qualities ensure it remains a popular choice for walls and floor coverings. Stone is quarried from where it has lain for millions of years, cut out from veins or strata and then shaped into blocks. It is further worked and finished according to its final purpose - polished, brushed,...

Travertine Travertine is a form of sedimentary limestone, made from compressed deposits left by calcite-rich hot springs which became, over millions of years, almost like a river frozen in time It is usually pale, in tones from off-white to bronze, with some inherent pits and holes which are the result of its creation. Because of its marble-like qualities, travertine has been prized by sculptors for centuries. There are three different grades of travertine, dependent on the quality, thickness, impurities, and sizes of pits and voids. Grade 1 is the best, and, as with all things, it is worth paying...

Levantine Ivory Levantine Ivory’s subtlety is an effect of tumbling. After being quarried and cut, the pieces are processed in tumbling water, sand and stone against stone, much like nature – but quicker. This results in softened edges, mellowed shades and an antiqued, worn finish. You can leave the tiles unfilled or they can be slurry grouted. Finish Tumbled, Unfilled & Honed (8 sizes) See page 14 for colour swatches, sizes and usage information Levantine Ivory Unfilled 61 x 40.6cm, 40.6 x 40.6cm, 40.6 x 20.3cm, 20.3 x 20.3cm, 20 x 10cm Levantine Ivory Unfilled 20 x 10cm
