1 Separation, protection and slip layer The ND separation, protection and slip layers separate materials that are chemically incompatible (e.g. polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polystyrene (PS)). The separation layer can also act as a protection layer. The protection layer guards the waterproofing membrane against mechanical and dynamic loadings. The protection layer should be designed to suit the conditions to which the waterproofing membrane will be subjected.
