Product catalog summary
Product Overview: The EM-box by Nilan is designed for domestic passive heat recovery, specifically integrating with Nilan's ventilation units. It facilitates heat recovery from the home's cooker hood, utilizing the heat generated during cooking.
Usage: The EM-box connects to the ventilation system, allowing basic ventilation through the hood when the cooker hood is off. During cooking, a damper opens to enhance air extraction via the hood, while the EM-box regulates air extraction from other rooms. If more air volume is needed, the ventilation unit increases its output. The EM-box can be installed above the extraction hood or between the aggregate and hood.
Alternative Solution: If optimal placement of the EM-box is not possible, a range hood filter box can be used. This alternative requires a DTBU damper in the extract air duct before the range hood.
Technical Specifications: The EM-box is made from 0.9 mm Aluzinc steel, weighs 6 kg, and includes a metal grease filter. It has duct connections of 2 x Ø160 mm and 2 x Ø125 mm, and operates on a 230V supply.
Schematic Diagrams: The diagrams illustrate the airflow and operation of both the EM-box and the range hood filter box, showing how they manage basic and forced ventilation.
Operational Details: The servomotor in the EM-box is controlled by the ventilation unit and activates with the cooker hood. The DTBU damper manages extraction from the bathroom and utility room during hood operation. In normal operation, the damper is fully open, integrating the hood into the basic ventilation system.
Company Information: Nilan A/S specializes in energy-saving ventilation and heat pump solutions. They provide comprehensive support materials for installation and maintenance, available on their website.

EM-BOX Use The EM-box can be connected to Nilan’s ventilation units. An EMbox enables heat recovery via the home’s cooker hood, utilising the heat generated from cooking. When the cooker hood is switched off, the basic ventilation takes place via the hood. When more powerful extraction is needed, e.g. during cooking, a damper in the hood is opened. At the same time, the damper in the EM-box will regulate the air extraction from other rooms as a part of the basic ventilation, so that the primary air extraction takes place via the hood. If a larger air volume is needed for the hood to provide effective...
