Gold Bond® brand Fire-Shield® Gypsum Board

Gold Bond® brand Fire-Shield® Gypsum Board

Product catalog summary
Specifications:
Gold Bond® Fire-Shield® Gypsum Board is designed for interior, fire-rated wall and ceiling applications. It features a fire-resistant gypsum core with 100% recycled paper on both sides. The boards are available in Type C and Type X, with thicknesses of 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch, respectively. Standard widths are 4 feet, with lengths ranging from 6 to 16 feet. The boards have square or tapered edges to facilitate joint reinforcement and finishing.

Applications:
These gypsum boards are suitable for use in fire-rated construction where framing members are spaced up to 24 inches apart. They are lightweight, cost-efficient, and compatible with various decorative finishes. The boards are non-combustible and dimensionally stable, resisting warping and sagging.

Advantages:
The boards are approved components in specific UL-rated designs and achieve GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold Certification for low chemical emissions. They feature GridMarX® guide marks for faster installation and qualify as low-VOC emitting materials.

Installation Recommendations:
Installation should follow ASTM C840 and GA-216 guidelines. Ensure framing materials are defect-free before installation. Use GridMarX for accurate cuts and apply boards first to ceilings, then walls. Maintain a minimum 1/4 inch gap between boards and floors to prevent moisture wicking. Fasteners should be driven from the center towards the edges, avoiding damage to the face paper.

Technical Data:
The boards comply with ASTM C1396 standards and exhibit specific physical properties such as flexural strength, nail pull resistance, and thermal resistance. They are classified as Class A for surface burning characteristics.

Finishing and Decoration:
Refer to GA-214 for recommended levels of finish. Ensure surfaces are clean and dust-free before painting. Use quality drywall primer to equalize porosities. Consider textures to minimize visual imperfections in critical lighting areas.

Limitations:
Avoid exposure to excessive moisture and temperatures above 125°F. Proper ventilation is necessary to prevent moisture buildup. Control joints should be spaced appropriately to accommodate structural movement. Avoid placing joints near window or door frame corners unless control joints are installed.
