Product catalog summary
Introduction
This document introduces the MELVAC VV Retrofit Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCBs) designed to replace aged VCBs, enhancing the lifespan and safety of switchgear systems. The publication is effective from March 2012.

Specifications and Recommendations
The document recommends replacing existing VCBs, particularly those manufactured before 1983, with Retrofit VCBs due to the cessation of parts supply. Retrofit VCBs offer improved reliability, reduced maintenance, and enhanced safety.

Key Features of Retrofit VCBs
  • Simple and safe operation with a single levering action for insertion and removal.
  • Improved insulated frame using Bulk Moulded Compound (BMC) for superior mechanical strength.
  • Greaseless design with NiP surface treatment, reducing friction and maintenance needs.
  • 15-year maintenance-free operation due to high-quality parts and special grease.

Technical Specifications
  • Rated voltage: 11(13.8) kV
  • Rated current: 630, 1250, 1600, 2000 A
  • Rated short-circuit breaking current: 20/25 kA
  • Compliance with IEC 60056 standards

Installation and Maintenance
The installation involves fitting an interlock plate to the VCB compartment floor, which takes approximately one hour per VCB. Detailed instruction manuals and training by Mitsubishi Electric staff are available.

Environmental and Operational Conditions
  • Altitude: 1,000m or less
  • Ambient temperature: –5°C to 40°C
  • Relative humidity: 45% to 85%
  • No excessive dust or corrosive gases

Conclusion
Retrofit VCBs are presented as a cost-effective solution to extend the life of switchgear systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation while reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

We recommend to replace the aged VCBs in order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of your switchgear. Manufacturing of VCB type 10-VPR-25M & 10-VPR-25B(B) ceased in 1983, as well as the supply of replacement parts which also was ceased in 2000. Since those VCBs cannot be supplied anymore, We recommend to replace the aged VCBs with our compatible new VCBs (Retrofit VCB) in order to extend equipment life and ensure the safe and reliable operation of your switchgear. Increase in the number of accidents Retrofit VCBs will improve reliability and increase economical efficiency. Use of aged...
