Product catalog summary
Introduction
MBCI offers two low-cost solutions for retrofitting existing R-panel roofs: the Double-Lok® standing seam roof system and the Retro-R® panel. These solutions allow the existing roof to remain in place, reducing labor costs and minimizing water entry risks during installation.
Option 1: Double-Lok® Standing Seam Roof
The Double-Lok® system is a 24" wide, mechanically field-seamed, trapezoidal leg standing seam roof. It requires a minimum slope of ¼:12 and is UL-90 and FM rated. High clips are used to provide clearance over existing R-panel ribs. Energy efficiency can be enhanced by adding two-inch unfaced fiberglass insulation or venting the cavity between the old and new roofs.
Option 2: Retro-R® Panel
The Retro-R® panel features rib spacing of 12" on center and a rib height of 1 1/16". It requires a minimum slope of ½:12. Existing lap screws must be removed before installation, but screws attaching R-panels to purlins can remain. Retro-R® panels are attached through existing minor ribs into purlins, with new lap screws installed through Retro-R® ribs.
Engineering Considerations
Consultation with a registered professional engineer is recommended to address additional loads, local code restrictions, roof cavity venting, insulation needs, and equipment removal and reinstallation.
Conclusion
MBCI provides reliable retrofit roofing solutions with a variety of colors and long-term warranties. For detailed installation instructions, refer to the manuals available on their website.
