Eco-ficient Insulated BattenLok

Product catalog summary
General Description: The Eco-ficient™ Insulated BattenLok® is a mechanically seamed roof system designed for energy efficiency, available in panel widths of 30", 36", and 42", and thicknesses from 2" to 6". It is suitable for roof slopes of ½:12 or greater, with panels attached using concealed clips to prevent thermal short circuits.
Specifications: Panels are made from Galvalume® with smooth or embossed finishes. Standard exterior panel gauge is 24, with options for 22. Interior panel gauges are 26, with options for 24 and 22. Coatings include Galvalume Plus®, Signature® 200, and Signature® 300. The R-value is approximately 7.69 per inch.
Installation Procedures: Installation involves preparation, panel installation, and seaming. Panels are erected from right to left from the eave. The substructure must be even to ensure proper panel engagement. Panels are heavier than single skin panels, requiring specific equipment and handling techniques.
Ice Dam Disclaimer: NCI designs roofs to meet load requirements but is not responsible for ice dam issues. Recommendations include using field-seamed panels, eliminating cold eave overhangs, ensuring adequate insulation, and considering self-regulating heating cables at eaves.
Architect/Engineer Information: Full test data is available for each panel width and thickness, including loading and R-values. Panels can be custom cut up to 50 feet in length. Consistent thermal values require filler insulation at cavities, typically using fiberglass insulation.
Important Notices: Inspect all panels and accessories before installation. Report any discrepancies or damages immediately. This manual is not applicable for cooler/freezer applications, and project erection drawings take precedence over manual details.
Handling and Unloading Panels: Forks should be at least 5 feet apart to prevent damage. Care must be taken to avoid damaging panel side laps with the forklift mast. Drive slowly on rough terrain. For longer bundles, coordination between two forklifts is required. Specific guidelines are provided for panels of different thicknesses and lengths.
Unloading with a Crane: Use a spreader bar and slings, preferably nylon straps, to avoid damaging panels. Foam blocks and anti-pinch boards should be used during lifting. Different rigging setups are suggested based on bundle weight and length.
Storage Guidelines: Store bundles off the ground to prevent water damage and allow air circulation. Opened bundles should be covered and secured to prevent weather or wind damage.
Thermal Bowing: Exposure to the sun can cause the top panel in a bundle to bow. If this occurs, turn the panel over to allow even warming.
Panel Staging: Bundles are marked with a number and include a packing list for easy identification. Position them close to the installation area to minimize movement. Avoid overloading structural elements when placing bundles on roofs.
Handling Panels During Installation: Lift panels from the bottom face only to prevent separation from the foam core. Use proper lifting equipment and methods to avoid damage.
Preparatory Requirements: Ensure all structural framing and bracing are in place and properly aligned before installation. Install rake angles and additional supports at endlaps as specified in the drawings.
Eave and Rake Perimeter Seal: Install joint flashing at gaps in structural framing for a complete seal along the roof's perimeter. Apply continuous vapor seal caulk along rake and eave structurals and ridge flashing.
Endlap Vapor Sealant: Apply Triple Bead tape sealer over purlin flange and endlap support angle. Ensure structural joints are vapor sealed.
Cutting Panels: Use a circular saw with a metal cutting blade, not an abrasive blade, to avoid rust issues. Support panels properly during cutting and inspect for damage before installation.
First Panel Run Preparation: Ensure all necessary structural supports are installed. Determine the width of the first panel run from construction drawings. Panels are installed from right to left when viewed from the eave. Mark and snap a chalk line to ensure panels are square to the eave.
First Panel Installation: Apply vapor sealant along the rake angle and eave. Set the first panel at the eave, aligning with the chalk mark. Temporarily fasten the panel and install clips at each structural support.
Endlap Panel Sealant Preparation: Apply vapor sealant to the rake angle and Triple Bead tape sealer to the endlap angle and purlin. Ensure proper placement of sealant along the panel length.
Installation Overview: Detailed instructions for installing the Eco-ficient™ Insulated BattenLok® panels include steps for applying sealants, installing panels, and ensuring proper alignment and fastening.
Sealant Application: A sealant pigtail connects the sealant in the panel groove with the interior ridge flashing. Continuous vapor sealants are used at various points to ensure a tight seal.
Panel Installation: Panels are installed by engaging the female leg over the male leg of the previous panel, ensuring the tongue and groove are fully engaged. Temporary fasteners are used initially, followed by permanent fasteners.
Seaming Operation: Seaming is performed using a hand tool and an electric seamer, controlled by a remote switch. Caution is advised to avoid injury or damage.
Rake Zee Installation: Rake zees are installed starting from the ridge and working towards the eave. Fasteners are applied through the rake angle, and Tri-Bead tape sealer is used to ensure a secure fit.
Outside Closure Installation: Outside closures are installed at the ridge using base tape sealant. They are rotated into place, ensuring proper alignment with the panel seams.
Safety and Caution: Emphasizes the importance of safety during installation, including the use of safety lines and proper handling of electrical cords to prevent accidents.
