Maxdesign is located close to the town of Torviscosa, which was built in one single year.

The town was designed to be self-sufcient, providing a social life for all who lived there. People could meet in various places: parks, libraries, cafés, swimming pools. There was even a theatre.

I remember the rst time I saw the classical murals in the entrance halls.

But the ofces with shelves stacked with les impressed me even more.

16 Before each performance, the grown-ups would stop to greet each other and us children would play on the stairs.

Many famous performers have been here. We enjoyed spying on them while they were preparing in their dressing rooms. I can still see the lights around the mirrors, the beauty cases, the costumes... As the performance was about to start, we would run to the balcony to watch.

We were excited as we waited for the curtains to open.

During the intervals, us children would have an ice-cream while the grown-ups shared a drink at the bar.

Sometimes there were dinners organized to celebrate a special event. These were always very elegant gatherings. 26

There was one particular day when children would receive gifts. These would be piled up next to the stage. I can still remember sitting with my parents, looking forward to receiving my gift.

The theatre was a world in itself with its public, its performers, its staff and its director.

I still come here to meet my friends in the evenings. We either play cards or have a drink and a chat in the grounds of the theatre. 36
