Functional Description

The irradiance sensor uses a mono-crystalline silicon cell to measure solar irradiance, with active temperature compensation for improved accuracy. Each sensor is calibrated against a pyranometer, regularly calibrated by PTB Braunschweig.

Mechanical Structure

The solar cell is embedded in Ethylen-Vinyl-Acetat (EVA) between glass and Tedlar foil, integrated into an anodized aluminium case, similar to a PV module. Electrical connection is via a 3m UV resistant cable.

Optional Temperature Measuring

The Si-12TC-T sensors can also measure solar cell temperature using a sensor laminated directly to the cell.

Irradiance Sensor-2

Technical Data The short-circuit current of a silicon cell is proportional to the solar irradiance. Si-12TC sensors use a mono-crystalline solar cell (Schott Solar) operated in short circuit via low resistance. All sensors are equipped with active temperature compensation, thus improving measuring accuracy. A special temperature sensor is laminated to the rear side of the solar cell. Each single sensor is calibrated against a pyranometer, which by itself is regularly calibrated by PTB Braunschweig, the German national metrology institute.
