Decorative mortar for patios and paths - 1

MATERIAL Technical sheet UPDATED 21 /04/2011 Decorative mortar for patios and paths Presentation This 2-mm thick decorative mortar is for outdoor use. Its mechanical properties, excellent adhesion and waterproof capability make it useful in creating durable outdoor surfaces such as patios, paths, pool decking, and driveways for light vehicles. It can be used on perfectly set tiling, slabbing, cement screeds and concrete floors. The final appearance is mineral and subtle with a light grain creating a non-slip surface whilst allowing the substrate to breathe. Properties and characteristics Consists of cements, mineral loads, resins, additives, and mineral pigments. After mixing, it gives a fluid paste, which is easy to apply manually or by machine. This mortar dries in a few hours, so that two coats can be applied the same day (the second coat can be applied four to six hours after the first, according to the conditions). Preparation of the mixture and application Pour Part B (liquid) into a container. Mix at low speed, gradually incorporating Part A (powder) until a uniform mixture is obtained. Each shade has a particular mixing proportion because of the different pigment densities. The package specifies the quantities to be weighed out according to the colour. Prepare only the amount that will be used in 40 minutes (at 20°C). This time is shorter if the temperature is higher. Apply the product manually (using a plasterer’s trowel, stainless steel or ABS finishing trowel, or finishing knife) or mechanically, in thin crosswise layers. The first coat should be thicker than the second; the second coat is for decorative purposes and will show the more or less smoothed grain of the finish. Clean the tools in water as the work progresses, before the product hardens. After using the product, the mortar must be protected from rain, wind, sunlight, and freezing whilst it hardens. Note: Never add water or use water on fresh mortar. Technical characteristics Granulometry: 0 to 0.5 mm Density of the mixture: Approximately 2. Pot life at 20°C: approximately 40 minutes Light traffic: 12 hours Normal traffic: 48 hrs Maximum mechanical strength: 7 days Yield: 4 kg of powder /m² at 2 mm Tool cleaning: with water Packaging: Part A (powder - 20 kg) and Part B (additive and pigment in aqueous phase – 5 L to
