PRIMER G

PRIMER G

PRIMER G

Product catalog summary
Where to Use:
  • Treating gypsum surfaces before installing ceramic tiles.
  • As an anchoring coat for gypsum-based sprayable plasters.
  • Improving adhesion of smoothing compounds on cementitious or gypsum-based surfaces.
  • Providing uniform absorption in cementitious or gypsum surfaces.
Application Examples:
  • Preparing cement-based surfaces before smoothing with self-levelling or thixotropic compounds.
  • Between layers of smoothing compounds once the first coat is dry.
  • On gypsum plasters before smoothing with cementitious products.
  • On anhydrite surfaces before applying cement-based products.
  • On cementitious renders before smoothing with gypsum-based products.
  • On gypsum walls as a fixative for wallpaper adhesives.
  • Before installing ceramic tiles with cementitious adhesives on various gypsum surfaces.
  • Treating gypsum walls, chipboard, cement fibre boards, foamed concrete, renders, etc., before papering or painting.
Technical Characteristics:
  • Primer G is a synthetic resin-based primer that forms a flexible, compact, shiny coating.
  • Improves adhesion of smoothing compounds, paint, adhesive for wallpaper, adhesive for tiles, and mortar for renders.
  • Prevents chemical reactions between sulphates and cement aluminates of gypsum.
  • Reduces substrate absorption, making wallpaper removal easier.
  • Prevents over-rapid absorption of water when used before sprayable plasters.
  • Reduces air bubble formation and prevents over-rapid drying when used before self-levelling compounds.
  • Not flammable, suitable for closed environments.
Recommendations:
  • Does not waterproof gypsum substrates but reduces porosity and absorption.
  • Not for magnesium substrates, external applications, or where rising damp is present.
  • Do not apply in excess to form a surface film; dilute with water as needed.
Application Procedure:
  • Substrate must be clean, dry, and free from oils, grease, residual paint, and loose material.
  • For ceramic tiles on gypsum: Stir and apply Primer G without dilution.
  • For gypsum plasters: Dilute Primer G 1:2 with water.
  • For self-levelling compounds: Dilute Primer G 1:1 with water for cementitious substrates; use neat for gypsum-based substrates.
  • For wallpaper adhesives: Dilute Primer G 1:3 with water.
  • For smoothing layers: Dilute Primer G 1:1 with water.
Consumption:
  • Depends on surface porosity and absorption; typically 0.08 to 0.15 kg/m².
Packaging and Storage:
  • Available in 25, 10, and 5 kg drums and 1 kg bottles.
  • Store for 12 months in original unopened packaging; protect from frost.
Safety Instructions:
  • Refer to the latest Safety Data Sheet for safe use instructions.
Legal Notice:
  • Technical details are indicative and subject to confirmation after long-term application.
  • Users must ensure suitability for intended application.
  • Most up-to-date Technical Data Sheet available on the Mapei website.

PRIMER G-1

Synthetic resin-based water-dispersion primer with very low volatile organic compound (VOC) • s an anchoring coat for gypsum-based sprayable A plasters. • Before installing ceramic tiles with cementitious adhesives on: – gypsum plasters and sprayed gypsum; – pre-cast gypsum panels; – fibrous-gypsum panels; – anhydrite screeds. • o improve the adhesion of smoothing compounds T on cementitious or anhydrite and gypsum-based surfaces. • Treating gypsum walls, chipboard, cement fibre boards, foamed concrete, renders etc. prior to papering or painting. • o provide uniform absorption in cementitious T or gypsum surfaces. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS Primer G is a synthetic resin-based primer which, once applied to any surface, dries to form a flexible, compact, shiny coating which consolidates the surface, where needed. Primer G also improves the adhesion of smoothing compounds, paint, adhesive for wall paper, adhesive for tiles and mortar for renders. WHERE TO USE • or treating gypsum surfaces prior to installing F ceramic tiles. Some application examples • Preparing cement-based surfaces prior to smoothing with self-levelling or thixotropic smoothing compounds. • Between layers of smoothing compounds once the first coat is perfectly dry. • gypsum plasters prior to smoothing with On cementitious products. • anhydrite surfaces prior to applying On cement-based products. The film of Primer G on the surface of gypsum or cement, prevents any chemical reaction between sulphates and the cement alluminates of gypsum which, in the presence of moisture, leads to the formation of the salt “ettringite’’ which is the cause of the separation of the two elements. • cementitious renders prior to smoothing On with gypsum-based products. The use of Primer G when papering allows to reduce the substrate’s absorption and, as a result, the amount of glue used, thus making the wallpaper removal much easier. • gypsum walls as a fixative for wallpaper On adhesives. When used before applying sprayable plasters, Primer G prevents over-rapid absorption of water

TECHNICAL DATA (typical values) PRODUCT IDENTITY Consistency: Colour: light blue Density (g/cm³): EC1 Plus - very low emission Use as a primer for gypsum plasters APPLICATION DATA (at +23°C - 50% R.H.) Application temperature range: Drying time before the application of the levelling compounds or adhesive: - concrete: - gypsum: by the substrate, prolongs workability time and helps prevent shrinkage cracks. When used before the application of self-levelling compounds, Primer G reduces the formation of air bubbles and helps prevent over-rapid drying making self-levelling easier. Checking gypsum...
