Open the catalog to page 1Not slate: a higher-class phyllite Ocean Black is a premium metamorphic phyllite native to India, in a deep grey-black colour. The manufacturer's technical data sheet places it in a higher metamorphic class than common slate, from which it differs in structure and performance. Water absorption is extremely low — 0.09% — with an almost total absence of connected porosity. After 50 freeze/thaw cycles the data sheet records no visible defects: a behaviour that makes Ocean Black particularly reliable for outdoor use and wet areas too. Fine Rubbed Smooth, matte and non-reflective — for worktops, bathrooms and surfaces in direct contact. Textured, dimpled surface, for flooring and walls with a strong material character. Natural cleft along the cleavage planes — the stone's most authentic look. Antiqued effect, soft and velvety to the touch, for a more informal character.
