The middle of the the internal bottom was covered in transparent varnish (a type of paint that imitate the high polishing). It then started to come off leaving the surface rough and easy to soak water. Proper polishing takes time, therefore some suppliers skip this process by applying varnish. Through the miracle of time, however, the spell is broken and the true nature is always unravelled. Nothing is more reliable than the appropriate polishing.

In this case, the inner surface of the marble bathtub was polished, but very badly. The users were at risk to be scratched by the uneven surface.
