Our story began with an idea: “Lots of light, not much lamp”. That was in 1975, when Tommaso Cimini created Daphine. A lamp that museums, libraries and countless people still ask us for. Back then the means were scarce, but our passion for light was huge. 40 years of Lumina 40 years of quality light. To guarantee high performance when developing an appliance means having to design elements that are complementary. The challenge here was miniaturizing the optics. Sustainability is part of our business philosophy. Caring, saving and recycling come natural to us, because everything saved is something gained. Respect for the environment is in everything we do, for ourselves and for others. The materials chosen for production are noble and recyclable, such as aluminium, steel and glass. Plastic is used only where indispensable. The production processes are in-house to ensure full control, from the very first functional tests onward, and minimize waste and emissions. Lumina is a company that’s committed to sustainability, so it uses energy from renewable sources. Its 67.56 KWp solar power plant entered service in summer 2012 and guarantees a 37 tonne/year reduction in CO2 emissions. Lumina’s production facility is on farmland just outside Arluno. The roofing is fitted with 700 m2 of solar panels covering most of our energy requirement.

Tommaso Cimini Since 1975, this lamp has represented the essence of Lumina. It is displayed in some of the world’s most famous museums of modern art and design. Daphine is a timeless synthesis of function and form: an articulated arm, with a pivoting diffuser, mounted on a transformer. Now available in a LED version, identical to the classic Daphine in shape and movement, but with a more powerful light and lower consumption. Visual wellbeing The LED version Daphine is an upgrading of Lumina’s iconic lamp. Identical in shape and movement, it guarantees excellent light emission with lower power consumption and operating temperature, maximum visual comfort and the highest colour quality. 28

The smaller version of Daphine. Daphinette has an articulated arm, with a pivoting diffuser, mounted on a transformer. Available only in the LED version, identical to the previous halogen version in shape and movement but with a more powerful light and lower consumption. Double winding electromechanical transformer (50W/12V). The transformer is one of Daphine’s defining elements. Aside from its high aesthetic value, it’s a repository of the company’s historical memory. 32

Adjustable and versatile Comfortable and practical The maximum temperature reached by Daphine’s head at maximum power is under 43° C. This means it can be handled to direct the light, with no fear of burning your fingers. 36 Daphine’s flexibility of movement is provided by three swivels: on the base, at the joint between the arms and in the head coupling. Their precision and reliability enable Daphine to be perfect all the time, even down through the years.
