Enduring Heritage The Ludowici legacy of Old World craftsmanship started 400 years ago in Rome where the Ludovisi family became famous for its expertly crafted roof tile. As European demand grew, the family moved to Germany and the name was changed to the Germanized Ludowici. Selecting a Roof A roof is an integral component to any building. In addition to comprising 50 to 70% of the exterior’s initial visual impact, it also sets the character, style, and tone of the architecture. Ludowici has 30 standard profiles and limitless custom profiles to fit the full range of architectural styles from Old World to contemporary. Selecting Colors & Blends Color is one of the most important aspects of selecting a roof. Clay red is the base color of all Ludowici roof tiles. All other colors are applied to the base tile at over 2000° F via a ceramic glazing process. This results in a permanent finish that will not fade or flake off. Colors will not lighten, darken or change from exposure to the elements throughout the entire life of the building. Many roofs are a blend of two or more colors.
