ActiveGel®

Product catalog summary
Product Overview
ActiveGel® is a flexible, micro-expanding polymeric adaptive gel designed for tile, porcelain stoneware, and natural stone installation. It features Fluidotixo® - C4 technology, providing low cement content, total wettability, and active adhesive force transfer. The gel automatically fills micro-voids and compensates for micro-movements during installation.
Key Specifications
  • Low Portland cement content (<29%).
  • Hydrophilic cross-linking flexible polymers.
  • Calcium silicate gel and high mineral aggregate content.
  • Classified as C2TE – EN 12004.
Performance and Application
The gel is highly flowable, thixotropic, and lightweight, maintaining its shape and thickness without sagging. It offers an open time of over 50 minutes and is resistant to vertical slippage. Active Transfer® technology ensures dynamic micro-expansion, optimizing the adhesive interface and filling micro-voids.
Safety and Environmental Impact
  • Low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Certified under EN 12004, ISO 13007, EC1 Plus Gev Emicode, and A+ Indoor air emissions.
  • EPD Environmental Product Declaration available.
Applications
  • Suitable for floors, walls, indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ideal for underfloor heating systems, terraces, swimming pools, and façades.
  • Compatible with various substrates including screeds, plaster, and existing tiles.
Limitations
  • Not suitable for uncured concrete, timber, metal, or certain waterproofing membranes.
  • Requires protection from heavy rain for 24 hours post-installation.
Preparation and Mixing
Mix with water to achieve a creamy, homogeneous consistency. Allow the mixture to rest for polymer activation before application. Apply using a notched trowel, ensuring full coverage and pressure for optimal adhesion.
Special Considerations
  • For marble and natural stone, use hydro-curing or reactive gels for materials prone to deformation.
  • For radiant heating systems, follow specific temperature cycling before installation.
  • Swimming pool installations must adhere to specific standards.
Specifications and Procedures
The document outlines technical specifications and procedures for constructing and maintaining structures exposed to mechanical, thermo-hygrometric, and chemical stresses. It emphasizes the importance of using the correct concrete composition (UNI 11104 – EN 206) and observing a minimum curing time of six months (UNI 11493 - 7.3.1). Waterproofing is crucial, with recommendations for using osmotic mortars and drainage systems to prevent infiltration.
Waterproofing and Surface Preparation
Surfaces should be ground and leveled with HydroLevel®, a quartz-reinforced compound. Waterproofing should be done using SafetyGel® or HydroPad® products, which offer elasticity and crack resistance. Critical areas like joints and pipes should be sealed with HydroStop and HydroPixel®.
Facade Installation
For external walls over 3 meters, consultation with Litokol’s Technical Customer Service is advised to determine the safest installation technique. The substrate must have a cohesive tensile strength of ≥ 1.0 N/mm². For large cladding, mechanical safety fixings may be necessary. Adhesive should be applied to both sides of the material for durability.
Grouting and Maintenance
X-Color® decorative grouts are recommended for grouting, while Starlike® epoxy gels provide waterproof joints. Pixel 3D sealants are suggested for elastic sealing. Litokol detergents from the X-Cleaner and Starlike® Care ranges are recommended for cleaning and maintenance.
Warnings and Safety Information
Tools should be washed before the gel sets due to high adhesion. Once hardened, the gel can only be removed mechanically. Safety Data Sheets are available on the Litokol website.
Legal Notices
The document provides general guidelines based on experience but recommends preliminary tests to verify product suitability. Users assume liability for product use.
Product Specifications
The installation of ceramic tiles and stone materials should use a second-generation, flexible, micro-expanding adhesive with low cement content, classified as C2TE according to EN 12004, specifically ActiveGel® by Litokol Lab SpA.

ActiveGel® Technical Specifications Flexible, micro-expanding polymeric adaptive gel (2Gen), Fluidotixo® - C4, with low cement content, total wettability and active transfer of adhesive forces, for the installation of tiles, porcelain stoneware of all types and sizes, and natural stone. Automatically fills micro-voids and dynamically compensates for micro-movements during installation using levelling systems (wedges, tie rods and clips). Product description Flexible, multi-purpose polymeric adaptive gel (2ageneration), featuring the exclusive Fluidotixo® Dinamico formulation, with a low cement content (<29%), for the installation of tiles, porcelain stoneware of all types and sizes, and natural stone, both indoors and outdoors. Designed to produce an extremely creamy, fluid and thixotropic mixture, it maintains its shape and thickness consistently on both floors and walls. It offers 100% wetting power, is resistant to vertical slippage and guarantees an open time of over 50 minutes. ActiveGel® incorporates the exclusive Active Transfer® technology, which enables controlled micro-expansion capable of filling the micro-voids that may form during installation with levelling systems. It ensures high-performance, flexible dynamic adhesion, capable of compensating for micro-movements and micro-voids, making installation very secure. It delivers high performance when applied as an overlay on existing surfaces, underfloor heating systems, terraces, swimming pools and façades, ensuring active transfer of adhesive forces and flexibility even on difficult substrates and large-format tiles. Gel Performance Adhesive Interface Gel with Active Transfer® Technology Active Transfer® is an innovative technology applied to new-generation gels that introduces the concept of dynamic controlled micro-expansion, with the aim of optimising the adhesive interface between the installation material and the tile (ITZ). Active Transfer® – How it works Active Transfer® is based on the integration of active rheological microsystems within the gel matrix; these microsystems: 1. This triggers controlled micro-expansion immediately after laying, which ensures complete transfer of the gel to the back...

To fully appreciate the superior flow properties and thixotropy of the innovative Fluidotixo® Dinamico gel mixture, we recommend mixing the product using the specified mixing ratio. Pour the correct amount of water into a container and slowly add the product, mixing with a mechanical mixer until a creamy, homogeneous mixture free from lumps is obtained. Leave the mixture to rest for about 5 minutes, during which time the polymeric gel develops fully: the hydraulic binders, fillers and cellulose hydrate uniformly, the micro-air bubbles incorporated during mixing are eliminated and the polymers...
