KC Catalogue, part 1 - 2

A line of furniture and Limited Edition pieces. Generally more complex and often the result of lengthy experimentation and a more elaborate design process, these pieces, t hough a lways practical, tend towards the more conceptual. This is particularly the case with the Limited Edition pieces, which straddle the line between sculpture and design. An object that simultaneously evokes the purity of Japanese Minimalism and the simplicity of the folding wooden tables found in the tombs of Egyptian royalty, the restrained wooden base provides solid support for the hand-perforated, industrially powder-coated circular brass table top, which grew out of an experiment in powdercoating hand-hammered brass. round and square Side and coffee tables Wood frame / Brass top Black or red lacquered frame Natural, black or red powder-coated top A: 57 (l) × 57 (w) × 54 (h) cm Karen Chekerdjian Studio, 2009

Though massive in size, Wing is remarkably light on its feet. Thanks for this go to the clever introduction of a sturdy under-table. Effectively a table in its own right, it supports the upper slab but remains hidden from sight. This not only permits the tabletop to be thinner than one a table this size would normally require but also creates the impression that the tabletop is oating, like a wing on the breeze. 12 wing Dining table Solid sycamore wood top, black-stained solid beechwood legs Can be made-to-measure in different woods Karen Chekerdjian Studio, 2010

Stood on the same sturdy legs, seating slab honed at the sides to a thin, inwardly slanting edge, the Wing stool clearly resembles its parent table. Here, however, no attempt is made to conceal the manner of its construction, which becomes a form of decoration, as the darker wood of the pegs attaching the legs to the bench appear visible in the lighter-colored surface. wing Stools, side table and bench Solid sycamore or brown/black-stained solid beechwood LOW STOOL: 40 ( ) × 30 (h) cm STOOL: 40 ( ) × 40 (h) cm SIDE TABLE: 55 ( ) × 40 (h) cm BENCH: 200 (l) × 35 (w) × 42 (h) cm Karen...

Inspired by the rooines of Japanese temples, which are exemplied by the graceful way they sweep upwards at their ends, it’s not just the gentle curve of the seat and oval-shaped back that lend Papillon an Asian feel, it’s also the sophisticated juxtaposition of crimson-tinted wood against the at matte black metal chassis and legs. Originally designed for a 90 cm high table, these chairs stand mid-way between a bar stool and a normal chair but are also available in a standard height. 16

Low-slung and capacious, the slightly cocked back legs of this massive, solid chair give it the appearance of motion. Depending on color, it is two very different chairs. The natural-colored incar18 nation verges on the rustic, evoking the aesthetic of a hunting lodge reworked. Its all-black sibling on the other hand, is an exercise in renement, the ideal addition to any urban retreat.

Inspired by the Hansel & Gretel fairytale, this dining table straddles a ne line between the natural and the designed and draws attention to the quality and nature of its materials, as much as the way they are put together. Set on simple 20 iron legs, the tabletop is composed of old pieces of walnut, which are of varying thickness. No attempt is made to hide this fact, nor for that matter the defects in the wood (knots, breaks) that have simply been sanded smooth for safety.
