Project Summary
Project: PacSun Outlet, Riverside, CA
Owner: Pacific Sunwear, Anaheim, CA
Lighting System: Juno Lighting Group, Des Plaines, IL
Results: The implementation of the Trac-Master Current Limiting Subpanel resulted in a 75% reduction in calculated watts, significantly lowered installation costs, eliminated the need for costly and time-consuming lighting redesigns, removed maintenance concerns, and enabled compliance with energy codes.

Background
Pacific Sunwear, a major retailer, faced challenges with new energy codes that imposed limits on lighting density. Despite upgrading to energy-efficient lighting, they struggled to comply with these codes, particularly in California, where Title 24 required a 45-watt per linear foot calculation, leading to exaggerated wattage calculations.

Challenge
The main challenge was the mandatory wattage limits on track lighting imposed by energy codes, which required significant redesign and increased costs.

Solution
Juno Lighting Group and Lighting Control & Design partnered to develop a sub-branch current limiting electrical panel. This solution was approved by the California Energy Commission and allowed PacSun to maintain their lighting design while complying with energy codes.

Result
The new panel reduced the wattage calculation to 8,000 watts, a reduction of over 75%, while retaining the necessary lighting flexibility for store changes. The Trac-Master Current Limiting Subpanel calculates lighting density based on actual load size rather than track length, avoiding costly redesigns and maintaining flexibility.

Product Compliance
The sub-branch current limiting panel meets ASHRAE 90.1–2004 requirements and is UL Listed. It is marketed under the names Trac-Master® and SilverBullet™ by Juno Lighting Group and LC&D, respectively.
