JOHANSON DESIGN Of course, a move abroad might have seemed an attractive alternative now and again, with cheaper raw materials and lower wages, for instance. But when all the advantages are weighed together and compared with the disadvantages – greater anonymity and risk of flawed deliveries, more expensive transportation costs, etc. – Markaryd has always won the battle with convincing arguments, including factors such as healthy and well-managed working environments and short lead times. JOHANSON NEWS ”One of the management’s primary ambitions is to safeguard traditional craftsmanship” 45 people are now employed at the 8,500 m2 plant next to the E4 motorway, with most of them engaged in the actual production of Johanson Design furniture. This is where the wooden frames for sofas and armchairs are made, to be upholstered by skilled cutters and sewers using specially selected fabrics and leather.
