Description and use IMPA CEM is an anticorrosion mortar based on cement binders and synthetic polymers, suitable to treat reinforcing rods during restoration works of degraded reinforced concrete. Being water and carbon dioxide impermeable, and with an alkaline pH, it will ensure long lasting iron protection against corrosion. IMPA CEM features excellent adhesion both to iron and concrete, thus behaving as an adhesion bridge for repair mortar. Technical data Colour Binder Max. particle size Mixing water Working time of the mixture Specific gravity of mixture Adhesion to substrate Practical consumption Storage life NB: Data recorded @ 20°C (68°F). red cement-synthetic resins 0.35 mm (UNI EN 933-1) 20 ÷ 30% by weight 1 hour 1300 kg/m3 (UNI 8995) 1.2 MPa (UNI EN 1542) 0.12 ÷ 0.20 Kg/linear metre on rod with a diameter of 10 mm; 1.75 kg/m² per 1 mm thickness. 12 months in original sealed container. Application note Substrate preparation Remove all loose concrete parts up to expose the iron rods. Buff or sand down the rods to bare metal. Take off any trace of rust and dust. Product preparation Mix 2 kg IMPA CEM with 0.4 ÷ 0.6 litres clean water to obtain a liquid grout to be applied by brush. Application method Apply a first coat of IMPA CEM, approx 1 mm thickness, over the rods making sure the product is well spreaded to reach even the hardest spots. Wait 2 ÷ 3 hours, apply a second 1 mm coat of IMPA CEM, then spread a fiberreinforced mortar suitable for high thickness restoring, within the next 2 ÷ 3 hours. NOTE: Do not apply under direct sunlight or in strong wind, and when the relative humidity exceeds 75%. Surface and ambient temperature must be above + 5 (41°F) and below 30°C (86°F).
