Product catalog summary
Introduction
The Tongue chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955, is a notable piece in his collection, following the Ant chair. Initially used in Munkegård School and later in the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, it was not widely available internationally until the 1980s. Recently, it has been restored by HOWE to align with Jacobsen's original vision, incorporating modern engineering and materials.

Design and Features
The Tongue chair is characterized by its organic wave-form seat and sculptural splayed legs. It is FSC certified, ensuring sustainable sourcing of materials.

Product Details
Veneer Version: Features a matt lacquered veneer with a 9-10 mm thick shell composed of 7 layers of birch. Available in walnut, oak, beech, and stained finishes.
Upholstered Version: Upholstered in Divina MD fabric or Savanne leather, with fire retardant CMHR polyurethane foam cushioning. Available in various colors.

Frame and Dimensions
The frame is made of round tubes with rod reinforcement, available in trivalent chrome or powder coating. The chair's dimensions vary slightly between the veneer and upholstered versions, with the latter being slightly heavier.

Ergonomics and Environmental Standards
The chair's design supports natural body contours and prevents pressure under the thighs. It meets ISO14001 standards and is fully recyclable.

Testing and Warranty
The Tongue chair has passed EN 15373 and ANSI/BIFMA X5.1-2011 tests for strength and durability. HOWE offers a 5-year warranty against defects and workmanship issues.

THE TONGUE-1

DESIGN BY ARNE JACOBSEN 1955 THE TONGUE Designed in 1955 for Munkegård School in Denmark, the Tongue is Arne Jacobsen’s second completed chair design - coming right after the Ant chair. It was later placed in the rooms at the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, where it was also modified for use as a bar stool. Yet the Tongue wasn’t available internationally until the 1980s and even then only for a short while. Now returning to its proper place in Jacobsen’s legacy, the Tongue has been restored by HOWE engineering expertise. The chair’s aesthetics are exactly as Jacobsen specified, with additional strength provided through precision engineering and the application of high-quality materials - matching Arne Jacobsen’s own vision for the Tongue.
