U.N. Headquarters New York The Finn Juhl Chamber In 2011 the design duo Kasper Salto & Thomas Sigsgaard won a design competition under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture, to design the furniture for one of the permanent chambers at the United Nations headquarters in New York, The Trusteeship Council Chamber. The same chamber was designed by Danish Architect Finn Juhl in 1951 as a gift from Denmark to the UN. Henrik Tengler – a new chair for a new era Even though most of 2012 was dominated by the Finn Juhl anniversary, Onecollection didn’t forget its original focus: to create new furniture by the best and friendliest contemporary designers. One of the latest additions is the conference chair TIME, created by furniture designer Henrik Tengler. TIME is not a typical conference chair, as it does not follow the current trend of curved organic shapes. It is a little bit cheeky with sharply cut cushions and a strong kinship with the cosmopolitan functionalism of the Bauhaus period. The cushions are clearly...

The double Chieftain The Chieftain Chair is one of Finn Juhl’s absolute masterpieces designed at the peak of his career. When it was presented in 1949, the Chieftain Chair marked a renewal of Danish furniture design. Finn Juhl picked up vital inspiration from the contemporary art scene of the time as well as art and tools from ancient cultures. His masterpieces from the 1940’s and especially The Chieftain Chair became of decisive importance for the breakthrough of Danish Modern in the USA in the 50’s. Therefore Finn Juhl is often called The Father of Danish Design. Together with the famous big...

East Africa meets Finn Juhl in Dubai The air is still, the heat is intense. The bright blue water of the Persian Gulf looks inviting in the heat. Burj Al Arab, the extraordinary luxury hotel “The Sail” is within walking distance if a cool glass of something alcoholic sounds tempting. House of Finn Juhl Copenhagen The house on the coast is designed by the Italian architect Claudio Modola and clearly inspired by architecture from rich East African ports. The owner of the house grew up in Oman. From the outside, the house looks like a small fortress with tiny windows, at the same time there are...

Global celebrations of Finn Juhl’s big birthday As the sole manufacturer of Finn Juhl furniture, Onecollection took part in several of the exhibitions, amongst others the three Danish commemorative exhibitions at Design Museum Denmark, Ordrupgaard Museum and the Trapholt Museum of Art, which each had their own individual focus on Finn Juhl and his work. 2012 marked the centenary since the birth of Finn Juhl. This was a big event in a Danish design context, but the fact that he was also remembered by a number of exhibitions in other parts of the globe shows clearly, that Finn Juhl has not been...
