The short stories in The Book of Sand by Argentinean writer Jorge Luis Borges also evoke this image of a "grain of sand” through their layered structures, reflecting the universal history of humanity. This formation takes us through the cyclical nature of time and space over centuries. Shelters, . cisterns, temples... layer upon layer to form a mound, creating a habitat for life. Viewed over a vast span of time, each part of this habitat is as ephemeral as the ebb and flow of a wave. Traces disappear...
