A FAMILY COMPANY Edwin Hak, Gijs Hak, Robert Hak, Mark Hak It all began in 1979, when Hakwood was founded. Specializing in softwood products, Hakwood gained valuable knowledge and experience engineering wood. The soil in which the tree stands, the amount of sunshine, the position inside the forest; all these aspects contribute to the characteristics of the wood. To make a quality wood product every choice has to be right. For us, this means sourcing the best raw materials and optimizing their yield.

RECLAIMED TIMBER At Hakwood, we have special appreciation for the unique look of aged wood. The beauty of antique wood fascinates and intrigues. It is wood that is deepened and darkened naturally with time. The material used for our Reclaimed Antique Oak is wood salvaged from European buildings, specifically the structural beams. When turning this antique oak into flooring, working by hand is key to preserving the authenticity and character. Our story continues beyond Europe to include other wood species: warm American walnut, hearty blond ash, fine-grained beech and robust woods from giant South American trees. We explore the world in search of bold, beautiful and high-performance woods. The colours and characteristics available in nature never cease to amaze us. We bring select woods into our collection, others we source per project to meet the strict demands of our customer.

JOURNEY THROUGH OUR FACTORY

At Hakwood we are critical when it comes to wood. Only the best boards enter our factory. After our careful selection, the timber undergoes a sophisticated production process we developed at Hakwood. It gives the wood just what it needs, no more and no less. During the production process quality control is of the utmost importance. Each board passes up to 17 quality checks before leaving the factory.

JOURNEY THROUGH OUR FACTORY FROM LUMBER TO DUOPLANK: A GRADE FOR EVERY PROJECT The dried wood can now begin its journey to become Duoplank. The frame saw is the first test. Because the wood has been dried so calmly, perfectly straight lamellae roll from the machine. Our team examines the lamellae one by one in order to determine the grade. With our extensive choice of grades, it is a step that requires trained eyes and full attention. For the benefit of all, they flip the lamella over for one more look. JOURNEY THROUGH OUR FACTORY TECHNOLOGY: ENGINEERING BALANCE & STABILITY Per grade, the lamellae go to the next stop: the gluing. With glue, that has no added formaldehyde, we adhere the lamellae to a water-resistant multiply backer. And not just any multiply. As the inventor of Duoplank, we work only with plywood of the highest quality Baltic birch that has a perfect fit in terms of moisture content with our lamellae.
