Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed information on Georgia-Pacific Gypsum's FireDefender® FS Edge Components for fire door assemblies. These components offer high-performance fire resistance, reducing the need for intumescent seals around the perimeter of positive pressure fire doors, except in specific cases.
Specifications: FireDefender components include mineral cores, FS stiles, rails, and blocking. These can be purchased separately or as pre-assembled banded cores. The mineral core is lightweight, an excellent insulator, and available in various sizes and thicknesses. It is approved for use in both steel and wood fire doors.
Testing and Certification: The components are tested and certified for the US and Canadian markets, with approvals from Underwriters Laboratory, Inc. and Intertek-ETL Semko. They meet multiple standards, including UBC 7-2, NFPA 252, UL 10-C, and others.
Quality Assurance: The manufacturing plant in Cuba, Missouri, is ISO 9001:2000 certified. The components have been successfully used internationally, with fire door tests up to 120 minutes in various regions.
Product Features: Concealed intumescents offer several advantages, such as cost-effectiveness, protection from damage, and aesthetic appeal. The FireDefender FS is used for stiles and rails, providing excellent screw withdrawal characteristics.
Fire Ratings and Approvals: The document outlines various fire ratings and approvals for different door configurations, including single and double egress doors, with ratings up to 90 minutes. Specific requirements for intumescent seals and smoke seals are detailed.
International Considerations: While not actively tested outside North America, the components have been used successfully in over a dozen countries.
Sales and Contact Information: Contact details for sales and order placement are provided, along with a cautionary note on handling and safety due to the presence of fiberglass in the products.
Limitations and Safety: The document includes a disclaimer on the limitations of remedies and damages, emphasizing the importance of safety in actual fire situations.

Georgia-Pacific is the only major supplier of components for fire-rated doors that does not also manufacture its own fire doors. Fire door assemblies containing Georgia-Pacific Gypsum FireDefender® FS Edge Components provide such fire resistance that use of intumescent seals around the perimeter of positive pressure fire doors has become a matter of choice, not a requirement, for the door specifier in single doors. The only intumescent needed anywhere in the opening of pairs is concealed in the meeting edges. This means that no intumescent is used on the door frame either! Concealed intumescents...
